General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work receiving and processing various land use and zoning applications and permits, preparing and maintaining files and records, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Assistant Director.

Essential Functions
Assists the general public with applications, questions, concerns and issues relating to planning, zoning, subdivision regulations, annexation and related matters.
Maintains and updates electronic and paper records in accordance with appropriate retention policies for the department.
Processes and assists with issuance and renewals of business, alcohol, and sign applications and licenses.
Reviews conditional use permits, manufactured home applications, special use permits, variances, and zoning applications for required information in accordance with policies and guidelines; receipts and posts appropriate fees.
Prepares and presents zoning applications for the Board of Commissioners, Board of Zoning Appeals and internal staff.
Prepares advertising notices, public hearing notifications, zoning verification letters and various types of signage.
Provide support for public events (e.g., open houses or public hearings)
Performs other related administrative tasks.
Encourages and promotes a culture of excellent customer service.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of permit processing and software; general knowledge of State records retention requirements; general knowledge of ordinances governing zoning and related codes; general knowledge of routine legal procedures as related to the enforcement of laws and ordinances; general knowledge of standard office methods and procedures, business English, spelling and commercial arithmetic and office management; general knowledge of departmental programs, policies and procedures; ability to speak publicly; ability to perform a considerable volume of detailed record work; ability to read plans to scale; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Education and Experience
An Associate’s Degree in community development, urban or regional planning or closely related field OR moderate experience in supporting planning staff in a public-sector agency or private consulting firm, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and using of measuring devices; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements
Favorable background history as determined by review of local, State and Federal records.
Valid driver’s license in the State of Georgia with a favorable driving history (MVR).
