Title of Position: Director of Youth and Campus Ministry
Purpose of the Position:
To glorify God through the youth ministry of First Presbyterian Church (FPC) by
presenting Christ-centered activities that promote personal growth in their relationship with Christ.
Hours: 40 hours per week with flexibility given due to weekend and night events.
Exempt Based on Ministerial Exception
Responsibilities:
- Conduct personal life in an exemplary manner to serve as a positive Christian role model.
- Minister to youth (age 4) through senior high (grade 12) through fellowship and study groups, and establish positive relationships with them through social settings outside of the church.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate mission work experiences and retreats.
- Review Mission Statement regularly Youth Ministry; develop and implement programs to meet these goals; keep records and evaluate periodically with the body given oversight for this area by the Session.
- Purchase and prepare curriculum for youth that adheres to our church’s Presbyterian theology and history.
- Coordinate Kids Connection and VBS, if applicable.
- Maintain calendars for ministry events.
- Provide outreach in the community to contact interested youth currently not church members.
- Attend meetings of the Youth and Family Committee and meetings of the Session when asked.
- Develop a “network” of church members to assist in youth work. This group will assist in recruitment, training, and nurturing the young people.
- Work and consult with the Youth Committee to develop/implement a Christian Education program for youth through senior high.
- Ensure effective communication between the youth, Session (its committees) and the congregation.
- Encourage youth to participate in Presbytery youth activities and camp participation.
- Provide opportunities for post-high school youth to participate in worship and other group church activities.
- Organize and oversee an outreach ministry to young adults attending St. Cloud State University.
- Oversee the development of a campus ministry intern program and personnel, if applicable.
Qualifications:
- Display a commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Have a clear understanding of the essentials of Reformed theology.
- Ability to communicate spiritual values across a broad range of intellectual and social development.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to identify and foster leadership in youth and adults.
- A BS degree in the field of education and/or significant experience working with youth is desirable.
Relationships:
The Youth Director works under the supervision of the Pastor and Session Youth and Family Committee. He/she may serve as a resource to other entities such as the Adult Christian Education Committee. In the process of implementation of programs, a close working relationship with staff is essential. A similar close relationship with other adult church members, especially parents of participants, can be very helpful.
Accountability:
The Youth Director is accountable to the head of staff and to the Session Youth & Family Committee.
Performance Review:
Conducted annually by the Personnel Committee and the Head of Staff.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
