Woodworker

Location: Fort Riley, KS, US

Essential Responsibilities:

The Woodworker reports directly to the Installation Supply Support Activity Supervisor. The Woodworker constructs and repairs items such as boxes, crates, pallets, and storage bins from wood and wood substitutes; studies specifications; and measures, marks, and cuts boards using patterns, templates, rulers, pencils, and hand and power saws. This worker fastens or installs parts using hammers, nailing machines, or power staples; repairs defective containers by replacing damaged parts; inserts wood bracings, cardboard files, and felt pads in containers. The Woodworker may build crates around objects using rulers, hand tools, and pneumatic nailers; may fabricate, repair, modify, and replace woodwork on vehicle sides and beds; apply preservative to prolong wood life; and may pack, seal, band, and apply markings to crates and containers.

Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Army procedures and logistics information systems.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform various production control activities including gathering and filing records, reporting on use of materials, and monitoring customer requests.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp, or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment.
  • Must be able to pass random drug testing.
  • Must provide a signed DD Form 3150 to confirm COVID-19 vaccination status and provide proof of vaccination.
