We are looking for Wind Technicians (Level I or II) to maintain all aspects of our turbines (e.g., electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.).
Our Wind Technicians are a vital part of our organization, and we take pride in hiring and training the best in the industry. This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement.
This is both the entry level and initial training level for the series. The hiring manager may elect to fill this position at the higher Wind Technician Level II position dependent upon a candidate's skills and experience.
The physical work location will be at Duke Energy’s
Ironwood Wind Power Project
located in Spearville, KS.
Ironwood Wind Power Project is over a 18,000-acre wind farm using Siemens turbines to produce 500 MW of energy.
Duke Energy will offer relocation assistance if you are selected for the role and do not live within a reasonable commute of the work location.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
-
Climb 300 ft. several times daily
-
Always maintain a high level of safety awareness
-
Perform proper LOTO procedures
-
Perform energy isolation in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
-
Perform turbine pad mounted transformer switching
-
Perform troubleshooting of wind turbine components at high or low voltages
-
Perform routine and preventative maintenance on wind turbines
-
Read and interpret machine manuals/schematics, electrical blueprints/schematics, and process control diagrams
-
Maintain electrical equipment and control systems (PLC) for Siemens wind turbines
-
Participate in on call rotation to maintain 24/7 support of facility, including weekends and holidays as required by manager
-
Complete work orders, inspection forms, service records and work documentation utilizing company provided technologies and software

Account the time and materials used for each job function

Complete EH&S procedures and documentation

Utilize Maximo and Duke Energy’s resource management systems
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
WIND TECHNICIAN LEVEL I:
-
High School/GED
-
Ability to climb turbine towers (up to 300ft) daily
-
Ability to complete level I job performance measures within 1 year
-
Complete Initial Training in Duke Renewable Academy
WIND TECHNICIAN LEVEL II:
-
High School/GED
-
External Candidates - In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (3) plus years of related work experience. Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within the probationary period
-
Internal Candidates - In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (1) plus years of technical experience with Duke Energy as a Wind Technician. Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator1 JPM Completed
-
Ability to climb turbine towers (up to 300ft) daily
-
Ability to complete level II job performance measures within the probationary period
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-
AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study.
-
Experience with Siemens 2.3MW Turbines.
-
Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technology
-
Experience with limit and proximity switches, photo-electric sensors, and solenoid valves
-
Experience in the areas of Industrial safety and electrical hazards
-
Additional years of experience with wind turbines: troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance
-
High voltage and substation maintenance experience
-
Familiarity with most electrical and mechanical components in Siemens: bridge rectifier, diodes, fuses, relays, solenoid valves, thermal breakers, contactors, yaw motors, accumulators, pressure relief valves, gearbox motor retrofit, pitch motors, pitch batteries, PT 100, Maxwell Ultra Cap capacitors, IGBT, and main breaker

Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)

Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
-
Basic understanding of pneumatics, and basic understanding of hydraulic systems
-
Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems
-
OSHA 10 Hour Construction Safety and Health Certification
-
CPR and AED Training Certification
-
TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training
-
Forklift certified
-
Microsoft Office Including Excel/Word/PowerPoint
WORKING CONDITIONS:
-
Valid Driver’s License required
-
Any travel to projects
-
Operate equipment including but not limited to forklifts and commercial motor vehicles
-
Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards
-
Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions, chemicals, or solvents
-
Ability to lift 75lbs individually
-
The ability to climb turbine towers (up to 400ft) daily is a requirement of this position
-
Walking, Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds
-
Working in all-weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow)
-
Work at heights greater than 300 feet daily
-
Work as scheduled during the week as required by manager
-
Completion of OEM or third-party technical specialty training program.

Must be able to pass a background check, drug test and a pre-employment physical to be eligible for hire

Safe Working Weight Requirement - This position contains a weight restriction of 265 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.

Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
