Radius Aerospace– Shelbyville is a leading manufacturer of sheet metal parts and assemblies used in the aviation industry. We utilize a wide range of metal forming techniques and special manufacturing processes, servicing the commercial, military, regional jet, helicopter, and general aviation markets.

This position is for our heat treat oven (drop bottom furnace). Duties include using a crane, reading work orders, learning specs, using precision measurement tools, heat treating aluminum aircraft parts, and troubleshooting/repairing the machine.

• Operates automatic and manual chemical process equipment of varying complexity in various production processes in accordance with operating procedures.
• Controls heat-treating furnaces, baths and quenching equipment to alter physical and chemical properties of metal objects, using specifications and methods of controlled heating and cooling such as hardening, tempering, annealing, case hardening, and normalizing
• Places parts in racks, trays, or baskets and places objects on conveyor or loads objects directly into furnace
• Determines temperature and time of heating cycle, and type and temperature of baths and quenching to medium to attain specified hardness, toughness, and ductility of parts, using standard heat-treating charts, and utilizing knowledge of heat-treating methods, equipment, and properties of metals.
• Adjust furnace controls and observes pyrometer to bring furnace to prescribed temperature.
• Loads parts into furnace.
• Removes parts after prescribed time and quenches parts in water, oil, brine, or other bath, or allow parts to cool in air.
• Performs quality control analyses as required to complete in-process batches and identifies variations.
• Processes may generate high pressure and/or critical reactions and requires training in hazardous material handling and emergency procedures.
• Cross trained in other various departments
• Other various duties as needed or assigned.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
