We are looking for a VP of Software Engineering. The VP of Software Engineering is tasked with leading and managing the direction of our technology organization, determine software product roadmap and overall tech-enabled direction of the company. The role is responsible for structure and growth of software operations including: Front End, Back End, Analytics, and Core Systems. As a key member of the leadership team, this position will promote and drive innovation and excellence through cross-functional collaboration.
** This is a hybrid role and candidate can reside in San Diego or SF Bay Area **
Principal Responsibilities
- Deliver strategic and operational direction for software and related technology.
- Provide leadership and direction for all development teams to identify knowledge management, training, and execution for all technical implementations.
- Develop and modify existing technology stack and drive implementation of new technologies/components.
- Focus on consistent delivery of high quality software and integration points that move the company towards achieving short and long term objectives.
- Implement and continuously iterate on the company's Software Development and Security Development lifecycles.
- Foster an environment of innovation and execution utilizing delivery and testing best practices across the enterprise.
- Ensure that appropriate and standardized designs are used to facilitate a successful transition from initial requirements to long term production.
- Enforce implementation and execution best practices across division throughout software development lifecycle
- Define roles and responsibilities related to development to ensure clear accountability for the quality of software implementations across the organization.
- Harness technology to drive efficiencies across the organization.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
People/Team Leadership
- Plan staffing levels. Work with HR to recruit, interview, select, and hire an appropriate number of staff.
- Provide oversight and direction to department employees to align work with company OKRs according to the organization's policies and procedures.
- Coach, mentor and develop staff on a daily basis, including overseeing new hire onboarding, regular feedback, disciplinary actions, career development and opportunities.
- Delegate responsibilities and tasks with an expectation of accountability and regular feedback.
- Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution. Support a work culture that appreciates cohesiveness, supportiveness, and working effectively together.
- Create a workplace culture that is consistent with Genalyte's mission, vision, and values.
- Oversee a performance management and development process in conjunction with HR, that includes OKR/goal setting, recognition, feedback around productivity and quality, and performance development planning.
- Maintain transparent communication. Communicate Genalyte updates through department meetings, 1:1 meetings, and other forms of communication.
- Manage the overall operational, budgetary, and financial responsibilities of the department. Make decisions that are financially responsible, accountable and justifiable.
- Establish and maintain relevant controls and feedback systems to monitor department operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or related technology field
- 10 years of experience directly managing engineers or highly technical teams. Experience in early-stage / growth companies, with a preference for biotech, pharma, healthcare or tech.
- Demonstrated applied expertise in working within FDA regulated environments.
- Experience in working in an environment following Agile methodology
- Ability to work effectively in a complex, diverse and fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a knowledgeable resource to the organization's management team that provides leadership and direction.
- Excellent problem solving capabilities and judgment with a detailed but flexible approach. Ability to make sound, scalable, decisions and create clear processes.
- Self-motivated individual with a record of achievement through past industry experience.
- Strong communications skills. Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences.
- Expertise in evaluating operational effectiveness and being able to provide internal business process improvement.
- Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching.
- An aptitude for building and working alongside strong teams through interview, selection, integration and resource management.
