Who we are

In May 2022, the Volkswagen Group announced their plan to grow in America by investing in the revival of the iconic Scout brand and the design, development & manufacturing of all-electric pick-up trucks and rugged SUVs for American customers. To this end, a separate, independent company, Scout Motors, was established in the U.S.

By combining an entrepreneurial spirit with the backing of the Volkswagen Group, Scout Motors will unveil its first prototypes in 2023 and begin production in 2026. The electrified Scout brand will build upon a new technical platform concept which delivers rugged credibility beyond the existing Volkswagen Group portfolio. Scout Motors’ products will combine credible capability, American authenticity, and new American innovation to win in the core of the U.S. market and to win the approval of its brand enthusiasts.

Despite a new Scout not being sold in over 40 years, the Scout community is still as passionate as ever. Scout Motors will build upon this existing enthusiast community and the Scout brand’s legacy to reach new fans.

What you’ll bring

• An abundance of experience (10+ years) both academically & professionally with a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in electrical engineering and in product development & management in the automotive industry is desired
• Expert knowledge of the US legal and governance systems (federal & state), including detailed knowledge of regulatory authorities with jurisdiction over the automobile industry
• Developing strategies around policy development for emerging consumer facing vehicle technologies
• Solid electrical ecosystem knowledge for the infotainment systems
• Industrial knowledge of real-time systems.
• Strong interpersonal skills including ownership, self-motivated, problem solving, analytical, team player, innovative, creative, communication skills and ability to develop & mutually thrive in working relationships
• Proven ability to work in a truly cross-functional and global environment
• Proven experience building and leading high performing teams

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the all-electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace.

Your engineering ingenuity, wonder & magic in infotainment systems will be instrumental in shaping the perception of Scout as a brand, as well as gaining peer admiration in the automotive industry.

The essence of this role is to:

• Build and lead the team to develop the infotainment systems for Scout all-electric pick-up trucks and rugged SUVs
• Be the vision of engineering excellence, user interface & source of knowledge
• Lead the customer experience teams for production concepts
• Critically review available infotainment systems and propose an engineering improvement &/or customer experience
• Design & create with collaboration, a simulation environment that allows the new infotainment systems concepts & ideas to be put to test for vehicle/ride infographics, aesthetics, visuals & overall user experience
• Liaise with the design team to propose components and assembly drawings for new infotainment systems including safety aspects
• Have an intense liaison & collaboration with wider engineering, production, customer, legal, quality, and financial teams to ensure regulatory compliance, financially feasible & functional excellence
• Contribute & motivate the infotainment system teams to come up with solution to engineering, consumer feedback & functional challenges
• Create prototypes for physical and computer verification testing
• Oversee adjustments in designs to conform to consumer standards & US government regulations
• Review competitor infotainment systems & keep up to date with Engineering & audio-visual excellence publications
• Proactively keep close to “pulse” of the consumer experience and propose infotainment system improvements
• Input into the design of production facilities for infotainment systems of the Scout trucks & SUVs
• Manage all 3rd party contracts with trusted partners to optimize infotainment systems
• Participate in the technological watch, actively promoting both the protection and the development of intellectual property.
• Be involved in other related tasks / activities as required
• Manage resources – infrastructure, financial & people, internal collaboration, 3rd party trusted partners
• Be a key member and decision maker within the technical leadership team
