Volunteer and Civic Engagement Coordinator

Essential Functions
This position will coordinate UNO’s student volunteer and civic engagement programming, including Signature Service Days. This will include developing and maintaining partnerships with Omaha area nonprofit organizations, UNO departments, and student organizations to co-create meaningful volunteer opportunities for UNO students. This position will also work with UNO students, faculty, staff, and community partners to develop, support, and sustain nonpartisan, civic engagement activities on campus that increase voter participation and civil dialogue. Provide supervision of VISTA, student workers, and ongoing training and support for lead student volunteers. Coordinate assessment and program evaluation of Signature Service Days and assist with data collection for other community service and civic engagement events. Work with management and the NU foundation to raise funds that support student volunteer and civic/democratic engagement.
Work Schedule
8 - 5 M- F, occasional evenings or weekends
Additional Duties
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree. At least one year of related work experience (community or political engagement in a university setting, volunteer management, higher education student affairs).
Requires excellent written and public speaking skills. Must be adept with Microsoft Suite and social media platforms. Must have the ability to manage and motivate groups. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field (political science, nonprofit management, public administration, social work, higher education/student affairs etc.). A record of personal volunteer, community service, and/or civic engagement highly preferred. Knowledge of university community/civic engagement (volunteer/community service, service learning, democratic engagement, etc.), campus structures, student learning outcomes, etc.; knowledge of nonprofit systems and operations helpful. Knowledge of Qualtrics or other survey/data analytics tools helpful.
