Certified Vocational Instructor

The Vocational Instructor teaches vocational training classes, supervises youth activities, maintains related administrative systems, and assists in organizing and maintaining quality educational and motivational activities. In addition to teaching, the primary responsibility of the Vocational Instructor concerns the safety, supervision, counseling, mentoring, and role-modeling for the campers.

Position Prerequisites

1. High School Diploma or its equivalent

2. Three or more years of successful teaching experience preferred.

3. Ability to obtain a District Vocational Certificate within 30 days

Position Supervised and Degree of Supervision

The Vocational Instructor position is supervised by and reports directly to the Education Coordinator and or Director of Education.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintain and update lesson plans that address the Culinary Curriculum Frameworks. The lesson plans will be submitted to the Educational Director for review.
  • Responsible for complying with federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures for vocational/technical education
  • Maintain and update needed educational records for all students.
  • Ensure that he/she is using a variety of instructional materials to deliver lessons, such as text books, media materials, hands-on learning activities.
  • Ensure that the safety of the students and staff is always monitored.
  • Maintain and update students’ grades for each nine week grading period and ensure that grades are submitted to the MIS Specialist in a timely manner.
  • Attend monthly educational meetings to discuss updates and concerns regarding educational and vocational matters.
  • Attend all in-service training and professional development opportunities provided by the local School District and Twin Oaks Juvenile Development.
  • Maintain a positive and professional classroom environment at all times. Teachers are responsible for keeping their classrooms and workplace neat and clean.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by the Education Coordinator.
  • Safety and supervision of campers during all activities in accordance with supervision policy.
  • Serve as an advisor, mentor, and positive role model to all youth.
  • Actively participate in day trips and special activities that may include but not be limited to job shadowing, educational field trips, work projects, community service, recreation, facility maintenance, grounds upkeep, and volunteer programs.
  • Safely and effectively utilize youth control/restraint techniques that include but are not limited to blocks, falls, escapes, defensive countermoves, close escorts, takedowns and application of mechanical restraints.
  • Adhere to all contract and state educational guidelines and Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Effectively implement the program’s behavior management system in accordance with the program’s policies and procedures.
  • Document and communicate incidents and activities through voice and/or written documentation.
  • Effectively communicate any significant incidents or issues with fellow staff members by voice, telephone, radio, and/or written reports.
  • Complete behavioral, incident, and PAR reports within required timeframes, with accuracy and objectivity
  • Ensure facility, equipment and supplies comply with all laws, regulations and policies, including those of Twin Oaks Juvenile Development.
  • Educate youth on maintenance and safe operation of all facility equipment within compliance standards.

5. Knowledge of all standards regarding ethics, confidentiality, abuse reporting, and documentation.

6. Ability to communicate effectively.

7. Ability to manage an education environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $45,000.00 per year
