SALARY: $ 23,000.00 per year
QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification preferred. Must have at least three (3) years of experience in the areas of general construction. Must be familiar with all aspects of general construction including framing, roofing, rough carpentry, painting, dry wall installation, taping, floating, electrical and plumbing. Must have the ability to communicate effectively (reading, writing, and understanding) in English; knowledge of Spanish is preferred. Must be over 21 years of age (for state certifications requirements); Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and current automobile insurance; Able to submit to a drug urinalysis pre-screening exam and pass a criminal background check. If the candidate for employment does have a criminal record, it must be cleared through the requirements as set forth by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. Must work a flexible work schedule.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Supervises the activities of cadets participating in a grant funded work-force training program. Provides hands-on instruction in the area of building trades. Supervises students' behaviors during all program activities. Ensures all tasks are completed in a safe and proper manner especially tasks involving the use of power tools. Must adhere, maintain and comply with CCJJD's, Cameron County's and TJJD's policies, procedures and ethical standards at all time, both on and off duty. Performs any and all other duties as assigned by the Chief Juvenile Probation Officer and/or designee, to include reassignment which is in the best interest of the department. This is not a Civil Service covered position.
