POSITION SUMMARY:
HIAS seeks an experienced visual storyteller to work with the editorial team in the Communications department to oversee all aspects of the organization’s photography and video content production. Reporting to the Senior Director, Content, the right candidate will be an accomplished documentary or editorial photographer with video experience, able to shoot and edit photo projects and short videos for website and social media use, assign and manage HIAS’ freelance photo and video assignments worldwide and oversee the organization’s photo and video collections.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees photography and video content production for HIAS headquarters, including shooting, editing, project managing and publishing as required, and supporting photo and video production and other projects of HIAS country offices around the world.
- Ensures that all photography and video produced by HIAS meets the highest editorial standard and maintains the organization’s brand integrity.
- Works with freelance photographers and videographers, editors and production companies in the US and overseas as necessary.
- Works with Social Media Specialist to produce and edit short videos optimized for Twitter, Instagram and other platforms.
- Works with Senior Director, Content and Vice President, Communications to create a global visual media strategy for HIAS.
- Shoots, edits and publishes photographs and videos featuring HIAS’ senior leadership team for editorial, marketing or other purposes.
- Coordinates and produces photographing, filming, webcasting and post-production of HIAS events.
- Helps manage HIAS’ YouTube and Vimeo presence and develops strategy for growing the organization’s subscriber base.
- Organizes and maintains HIAS’ photography and video collection including both contemporary and archival material.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in a relevant field.
- 6-8 years of relevant experience.
- Expertise in documentary or editorial photography, including some location lighting.
- Expertise in conceptualizing, shooting and producing video for the web.
- Excellent editorial judgment.
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator; proficiency in Final Cut Pro X a plus.
- Experience in documentary, promotional and event production, webinars a plus.
- Experience with wire and archival photo research; demonstrated competency negotiating licensing rights and mastery of copyright.
- Experience with photo and video archiving best practices preferred.
- Experience with website content management systems (WordPress, Drupal) a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once, and to set and meet deadlines.
- Experience with humanitarian, relief or aid organizations preferred.
- Ability to collaborate and work independently in a fast-moving environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and project management skills; detail-oriented; ability to set goals, maintain calendar, measure impact and ensure program implementation is consistently on budget.
- Ability to multi-task and problem-solve diverse issues.
- Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and communicate effectively across different cultures.
- Some domestic and international travel expected (approximately 3-5 trips per year).
EXTERNAL REPRESENTATION:
