Job description

Haverford College invites applications for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of the Writing Program to begin Fall 2023.

Haverford College encourages applications for a full-time position as Visiting Assistant Professor in the Writing Program for the academic year 2023-24. Specialists in any field or discipline in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences are welcome, but we are particularly interested in postdoctoral candidates from across different disciplinary fields with experience in teaching writing, and who are prepared to teach and closely interact with a diverse student body. Our First-Year Writing Seminars are focused upon the academic essay and candidates should be prepared to teach this kind of writing; they should also demonstrate in their application that they are prepared to offer three different seminars that are thematically unified and textually based and which support a field of academic inquiry. Successful candidates will infuse the seminars with fresh intellectual energy that reflects current scholarship in their field. Over the course of the academic year the Fellow will teach a total of four seminars (each limited to 12 students) two in each semester, and will assist the Director of the Writing Program in reading student placement essays in mid-August.

The position is renewable for up to two additional years, pending a successful review each year and contingent upon annual budgetary approval. This is a full-time and fully-benefitted position. The College also provides ample support for professional development and travel.

A Ph.D. is required at time of appointment or ABD with plans to defend by the conclusion of the first year of the appointment. To qualify for appointment, applicants will have held the degree for no more than six years.

Please submit, via Interfolio (https://apply.interfolio.com/120105), a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and a brief writing sample by March 3, 2023

Questions about the Writing Program or the application process should be directed to Debora Sherman at dsherman [at] haverford.edu. For technical questions, please contact lnterfolio directly at 1-877-997-8807 or help [at] interfolio.com.
