The ECS headquarters team located in McLean, VA, provides key support for its electrical and mechanical companies, including finance and accounting, human resources, legal, national purchasing, and information technology.
SUMMARY
The Vice President - Electrical Operations (ECS) is professional, focused, and competent in all technical and commercial aspects of major electrical construction, including high voltage work. Responsibilities include but are not limited to performing routine oversight and mentoring of an assigned selection of operating companies. The weekly, monthly, and quarterly routine consists largely of operating company and jobsite visits, reviewing weekly bid reports, monthly WIP’s, and other financial statements. The VP-Ops actively communicates by voice and email up and down the organizational chain about observed risks and opportunities that will keep the business aligned with EMCOR’s core values and mission objectives. Occasionally, the VP-Ops may need to assertively take control of an operating company or large project that has run into serious challenges. VP-Ops is expected to demonstrate the EMCOR leader philosophy that – when material problems begin to surface - our executives are “wheels-up” and laser focused until the situation is brought under control.
Compensation Range: $250-$270k/year
Other Compensation: Bonus eligible
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties will likely be assigned.
- Visit operating companies to assess performance and operations, including major project sites to evaluate financial health of the jobs (up to 50% travel).
- Occasional visits to ECS segment office when legal, financial, HR, and IT circumstances best require face time
- Review weekly bid opportunities with an eye toward eliminating undue risk and maximizing opportunity
- Participate occasionally in operating company WIP meetings, and review WIP’s on a monthly basis and following up with companies on areas of improvement such as collections.
- Reviewing all financial statements, especially cash
- Support and improve companies by mentoring on topics like: business development, leadership, succession planning, process and procedure, project management, safety, etc.
- Doing quarterly deep dives and writing operating company summary narratives for VP - Operations
- Signing off on quarterly SOX certifications for assigned companies
- Complete and submit expense reports and make own travel arrangements.
- VP- Ops may be asked to participate in the following:
- Assisting the M&A Group of EMCOR Group Inc, in the due diligence on acquisitions of other electrical/mechanical or fire protection type companies.
- Participating in or leading Peer Group or upcoming Meeting or Conference within EMCOR Construction Services.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction or related areas of study; and
Minimum of 20 years progressive experience in managing and leading both small- and large-scale construction projects, of which a significant portion must be in high voltage work. Experience must include:
- Direct P&L responsibilities for operational revenue exceeding $.5B;
- Responsibilities for multiple operations over a large domestic geographic area, specifically the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic;
- Successful oversight of a larger electrical operating company, especially those specializing in high-voltage work (i.e., transmission lines, substations, systems, preventive maintenance and splicing, etc.)
- Oversight of or experience working with publicly traded companies; and
- Proven track record of effectively growing operations while maintaining a commitment to Ethics and Safety
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands of this job range from working in a traditional business office (i.e., sitting, talking, using a computer, etc., in an environmentally controlled environment) to a variety of construction worksites requiring walking on rugged or uneven terrain, climbing, kneeling, bending. Worksites could be located underground in tunnels or in high-rise construction.
Traveling is required throughout the work week up to 50% of the time, including frequently by airplane.
