JOB SUMMARY:
The Paramedic Triage Liaison’s primary responsibility is to provide the initial contact with a patient presenting via emergency care center's front entrance. Based on protocols, chief complaints, and observations, the triage liaison will gather initial information perform an initial assessment and notify the emergency department staff about patients that need urgent/emergent care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Immediately assesses patient’s chief complaint and presenting condition using Emergency Severity Index (ESI) triage system.

• Evaluates patient’s vital signs and initiates lifesaving measures as needed, i.e., opening an airway, hemorrhage control, chest compressions, stabilization of fracture, cervical spine alignment, etc.

• Communicates the condition of patients presenting to the Emergency Department staff.

• Stabilizes and extricates injured patients from vehicles at emergency department entrance.

• Assists patients to and from vehicles and the emergency department.

• Acts as a liaison between the patients’ family/significant other and the members of the emergency staff by maintaining open communication regarding patient condition, status, progress, etc.

• Transports patients from triage to the treatment area in the emergency department at the request of the nurse.

• Assist in directing patient flow and traffic in the triage/reception area.

• Maintains the standards for care and performs skills in compliance with the regulations set forth in the Montana State Board of Paramedics.

• Exhibits age-appropriate competencies: newborn, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

• Upon completion of all interventions, documents accurately and thoroughly in the appropriate area of the patient record in accordance with organization policy.

• Reports changes in patient condition or pertinent observations to the appropriate nurse, physician, and/or other member of the healthcare team.

• Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.

• Participates in orientation of new personnel.

• Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.

• Actively participates in Performance Improvement.

• Accepts accountability for own actions.

• Other job-related duties as assigned by department manager.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:**

• Attends at 75% of unit staff meetings.

• Attends all mandatory in-service classes.

• Completes all annual required educational competencies.

• Maintains current CPR, ACLS and PALS certification.
