About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co. a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

This position is within the Energy Delivery Transmission Operations Support (EDTOS) Tools and Technology (T&T) group. EDTOS groups, including T&T, support the operations of FirstEnergy’s (FE’s) two transmission System Control Centers (SCCs) in Akron, OH and Fairmont, WV as well as their respective Back Up Control Centers (BCCs) in Wadsworth, OH and Fairmont, WV. The SCCs provide oversight of FE’s transmission grid through monitoring, optimizing, and control. T&T provides support in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of tools, technology, and procedures related to the SCCs and BCCs. Positions within T&T are very dynamic and execute a wide variety of work over a spectrum of scopes. As a result, candidates filling these positions will conduct frequent interaction with peers and leadership, particularly through status updates on initiatives and projects.


IMPORTANT - This position is considered a mobile/remote work position, however, may require occasional travel to the Akron, OH or Fairmont, WV Control Center facility for in person meetings or project assignments.


Analysts will develop Power Business lntelligence dashboards that will support strategic initiatives, resource management, variance analysis, trends, and project status.

This position will focus on data visualization, data analysis, project management, and process improvement utilizing tools such as MS Power, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint..


Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrating commitment to the FirstEnergy Core Values and Behaviors including safety.
  • Developing and providing reporting and database support to employees to assist in their learning of standards, procedures, designs, and associated issues.
  • Conducting in-depth strategic research, analyzing data, interpreting results, and providing solutions.
  • Supporting communication across business units regarding project needs.
  • Supporting Power business intelligence applications by designing, testing, and debugging dashboards and reports from functional specifications. These individuals will work from program specifications or prototypes.
  • Supporting and sustaining FirstEnergy as a high performer by contributing to excellent organizational performance outcomes and values of FirstEnergy through responsible and effective effort work performance.
  • Providing superior customer service by anticipating and exceeding customer needs and driving continuous improvement.
  • Actively seeking ways to overcome challenges and add value within scope of assignments.

  • Recommending and implementing solutions to complex issues and assignments.
  • Developing process improvements for moderately complex work processes and/or projects.
  • Being or becoming proficient in various software, analysis packages, and visualization tools including Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Develop tools, templates, and methods of communication.
  • Compile, validate, monitor, and review department metrics with team to support achieving department goals.
  • Preparing technical reports and summaries, sometimes on an ad hoc basis and making presentations when necessary.
  • Data mining using query tools from various databases and systems.
  • Develop process mapping and guidance for business processes.
  • Developing and/or supporting reporting of key metrics and benefit realization.
  • Working across Transmission Operations to ensure effective and consistent reporting and analysis.
  • Actively seeking formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand departmental procedures.
  • Providing off-hours support to the Control Room as needed (typically infrequently) during large restoration incidents.
  • Building strong relationships and credibility across the organization.
  • Being a representative at annual industry related conferences and meetings external to FE.

Qualifications include:


  • Two to four-year degree in management, Business Administration, Finance, Computer Science, or related discipline is preferred, along with a minimum of 4 years related work experience required. In lieu of a degree, 7 years of related experience will be required.
  • An advanced degree or professional certification is preferred.
  • Relevant experience includes identifying and acting on process improvements, analyzing, and projecting required work, monitoring requirements to completion, data reporting, analysis, costing and recommendations, and an in-depth understanding of the relevant subject matter.
  • Demonstrates a solid commitment to the FirstEnergy Core Values and Behaviors and all aspects of safety.
  • Works safely according to company policies and procedures.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word.
  • Experience with data source and report deployment on the Power Bl cloud service, creating intuitive reports to monitor opportunities and deficiencies, and Advanced level calculation and data transformation.
  • Evaluation and mapping of a variety of data sources and gathering methods for synthesis.
  • Experience in Structured Query Language (SQL), Data Analysis Expressions (DAX), Power Query M, and Power Fx, Power Automate or other workflow automation for translating business processes into automated solutions.
  • Microsoft Power Bl experience in the development, maintenance, and testing of Microsoft Power Bl reporting and dashboard solutions.
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships.
  • Demonstrate growth in use of research techniques.

  • Ability to travel infrequently from the Akron, OH area facilities to the Fairmont, WV facilities or vice versa if needed.
