Performs a wide range of skilled and unskilled construction tasks on assigned renovation and new construction projects that support the healthcare mission of WVU Hospitals and its facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EXPERIENCE:

1. 1 year of experience in the construction field performing work in a commercial/residential setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Completion of educational curriculum from a trade or vocational school.

2. License or certification of at least one of the following construction disciplines: Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, or HVAC.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Must have basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing skills as identified below:

  • Framing with metal studs
  • Measuring, cutting, hanging drywall
  • Finishing drywall by taping, sanding and applying a finish
  • Framing and hanging doors
  • Installing electrical conduit and pulling wiring
  • Installing a variety of electrical devices and safely terminating connections.
  • Installing and hanging HVAC ductwork and devices
  • Roughing in and installing new plumbing fixtures, valves, supply, drain and vent lines
  • Installing different types of flooring materials.

2. Must be capable of reading and interpreting construction drawings and detailed specialty equipment installation specifications.

3. Must be knowledgeable of safe construction practices.

4. Must be knowledgeable of Life Safety codes

5. Must be knowledgeable of Infection control practices as they relate to construction and renovation work in the hospital environment.

6. Must be capable of interacting with all levels of employees

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Ability to climb and work off of ladders, scaffolding, or electric lifts.

2. Must be able to read blueprint drawings and specifications.

3. Must be able to lift at least 75 pounds.

1. 90% of work is inside Facility

2. 10% is outside in all weather conditions
