Essential Job Functions
General/Minimal Requirements:
- Mainframe experience, whether in system programming; applications programming; or Operations.
- Knowledge of z-Systems hardware and software in general and of any kind.
- Experience with or understanding of virtual environments.
- Familiarity in working with hardware and software vendors, IBM in particular, and how to report problems and how to obtain and apply maintenance and fixes, etc.
- A natural curiosity, willingness to learn new things, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to be part of an OnCall rotation and work off hours to support hardware and software changes.
- Experience with working in a group environment.
- Experience with working in a project driven environment.
- Ability to multi-task.
Specific Skills:
- z/VM mainframe systems programmer.
- Understands how to modify and tailor a z/VM system using the SYSTEM CONFIG file
- Directory maintenance skills
- Ability to use ICKDSF to maintain DASD devices
- Able to support IOCP updates and work with CHPID Mapping files
- Familiar with zSeries HMC hardware
- Able to communicate operator commands to an Operations team for system maintenance
- Good understanding of networking (SNA, TCPIP, OSA)
- Familiar with SFS directory administration
- Experience working with software repositories.
- Good understanding of VMSES/E and how to apply IBM software updates (APAR/RSU/COR)
- Be able to build CPLOAD files for system maintenance
- Understands the use and creation of PPF files
- Ability to install program products and associated vendor provided fixes
- CA/Broadcom (VM:Manager, MIM, ACF2)
- VSSI (VPARS/VTAPE)
- Velocity (z/VPS)
- Good understanding of VMSES/E and how to apply IBM software updates (APAR/RSU/COR)
- A TPF background
- Ability to test a z/TPF system using a VPARS guest environment.
- Familiar with z functional commands
- Knowledge of BAL (Basic Assembler Language) and/or Pipes.
- Able to do CP/CMS modifications (mods) to z/VM and local code
- Able to maintain private CPXLOAD enhancements
- Able to program using XEDIT, REXX and CMS PIPES
- Able to read and process system dumps
- mainframe performance
- Ability to analyze performance reports and troubleshoot capacity issues
- zLinux and Redhat and SUSE Linux management.
- Ability to install new guests and clone existing guests in a z/VM environment
- Knowledge of Linux containers
