BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY
Performs highly complex (senior-level) educational and professional assistance work for the STARBASE program instructional staff. Reports to the Houston Lead Teacher and works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
WORK HOURS: Monday – Friday, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Presents subject matter to students including instruction of all computers aided design (CAD) curricula under the direction and guidance of teachers.
- Implements behavior management strategies.
- Assists with ordering instructional supplies and materials.
- Collects and reports student performance data.
- Accompanies students on field trips.
- Maintains classroom and performs daily materials set-up, break-down and clean up.
- Maintains computer lab including maintenance of 3-Dimensional Printers.
- Records student classroom activities through digital photos, downloads and print.
- Assists with preparation of classroom materials and equipment as needed.
- Assists with inventory of program equipment, instructional supplies, informational materials and resources for student instruction.
- Assists with coordination, scheduling, and implementation of on and off-site student tours.
- Reproduces, maintains, and disseminates instructional materials as needed.
- Prepares pre-Academy documents including but not limited to:
- Materials for Academy Notebooks
- Student Permission Forms and Medical Information
- Chaperone Information Forms
- Student Name Tags
- Team Assignment Forms
- Student Demographic Information
- Pre and Post Test data entry.
- Assists with maintenance of class records.
- Assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the STARBASE 2.0 afterschool program
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Attends relevant training to maintain the essential functions of the position.
- Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies & procedures handbook
- May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, and other missions, to include holidays and weekends
MINIMIUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
- Graduation from an accredited two-year college with major course work in education is preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working in childcare or training in child-related field is required.
- Experience using Microsoft Office (such as Outlook, Word, or Excel) is required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience conducting direct instruction of elementary level students is preferred
- Knowledge of instructional best practices and exemplary pedagogy is preferred
- Experience working with English as a Second Language (ESL) students is preferred
- Proficiency with Computer Aided Draft (CAD) software programs is preferred
- Experience teaching robotics software programs is preferred
- Knowledge of state purchasing, and inventory requirements and processes is preferred
REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE:
- Valid driver's license is required. *The ability to obtain a Texas Driver's license will be required within first 30 days of employment. A clean driving record is required for driving state or federal vehicles to conduct agency business.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Selected candidate must pass federal security background investigation. The process includes a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting. New employees must complete and sign the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Form SF85. Completed forms are submitted to the OPM for the background investigations.
- The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires all new employees to present proof of eligibility to work in the United States within three (3) days of being hired. The Texas Military Department participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.
- This position is security sensitive and employment is contingent upon favorable results of a criminal record check with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- education principles, practices and techniques; and
- elementary science, mathematics and technology content.

- using computers with Microsoft Office Suite to include Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is generally performed in a classroom setting involving standing for extended periods of time. This position requires the flexibility to interact with students by walking, stooping, bending, and sitting to perform job duties. Work requires the use of personal computer and telephone. This position may periodically require the ability to lift, carry move and/or set up equipment and materials that weigh up to 25 pounds.
NOTE: Texas STARBASE Academy is a smoke-free environment. Smoking and/or the use of tobacco is prohibited within the facility.
