POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Program Director of Art and Humanities, the incumbent will administer functions related to production of musical theatre piece in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards of the Association.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Instruct/direct all cast/crew (of any age) in a positive and constructive fashion.
  • Plan rehearsal schedule and content with Program Director.
  • Attend auditions for the production, select cast members, and contact all candidates afterward.
  • Request rehearsal pros, wardrobe, and needed materials, from Program Director in advance.
  • Coordinate light/sound needs, and design set for production, with Technical Director.
  • Arrive early for rehearsals, brief the crew, and set-up as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 or older
  • 1 year experience-Familiarity with the musical theatre production process, including rehearsal planning, blocking, choreography, vocal instruction, set design, wardrobe design, technical rehearsal, dress rehearsal, and performances.
  • Prior experience working with children
  • Ability to work patiently and appropriately with children.
  • Must have a positive, enthusiastic and outgoing personality.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physical mobility: walking, climbing, stairs, standing, kneeling, bending, leaning, stooping and sitting for extended periods of time
  • Physical Dexterity: ability to use telephone, computer, electronic equipment
  • Lifting: ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Sensory Requirements: ability to hear, listen, speak, smell, touch, taste, see and distinguish colors
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
