Highland Industries has an immediate need for a candidate to fill our Tie-In Operator opening in the Weave room at our Cheraw, South Carolina Industrial Fabrics Manufacturing Facility.
40 hours per week average at this time (Customer order driven and can change).
Summary: The Tie-In Operator is responsible for the replacement and tying of warp beams, setting up looms with the correct size, mesh, color and weave patterns and the correct entry of production information into the computer system. The duties also include aiding with changeovers as needed. Management may assign additional duties as needed. We are looking for experience but may be willing to train someone on this position.

Job Summary:
The Tie-In Operator will tend portable or stationary automatic warp tie-in machine, that ties warp ends from a full warp beam to warp in loom in order to resume weaving without repeating the drawing-in process. Will draw in looms and patterns when warps cannot be tied. Will also divide, comb out, straighten and clamp ends in position in tiers on tie-in stand. Will press buttons or turn cranks to start tying mechanisms. Will also observe and control the tying-in process as machine picks up corresponding strands from warp beam and from loom beam, ties strands together and cuts off excess yarn above knot. Will stop machine, correct misalignment of warp yarn and release joined strands from tie-in stand. Will manually tie ends not tied by machine. Pull warp through drop wire, harnesses and reed so knots will not jam assembly and break when loom is started. Will build warps. Will install warps into weaving machines, using warp truck with the aid of another changeover person. Will level and or align parts, repair, or replace defective parts using hand tools. Will check warp pattern, sizes, fill mesh and fill yarn, then place machine in production.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: May perform 5S tasks as needed. May repair warp and filler breaks in yarn. May start loom and inspect woven cloth to detect defects. May notify Loom Fixer of mechanical defects. May replace defective warp yarn, repair incorrect threading of looms and monitor looms to ensure that fabric and fill yarn conforms to work order. May change set-up of loom to weave different pattern or different type of yarn.
SPECIAL DEMANDS/RESPONSIBILITIES: Must perform all duties in a safe manner. Must perform other departmental duties as assigned by supervisor. Must handle and move material without damage. Must be able to read a tape measure to 1/32 of an inch. Must be able to be trained in weaving machine operation and capable of learning to operate tie-in machines efficiently. Must understand basic mechanical skills and be able to apply these skills to the job. Must be able to work overtime as scheduled or assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Will receive direct supervision from the shift Production Supervisor and or department team leader.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Prefer 12 months previous work experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment. Prefer 6 months loom operator experience. Prefer knowledge of weaving operations. We are willing to train if some of the experience above is present.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to push, pull, front carry, horizontal lift, floor to waist lift using correct lifting procedures. Ability to lift sedentary (occasionally), light (occasionally), medium (occasionally), heavy (occasionally) and very heavy (occasionally) materials using correct lifting procedures. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch and flex trunk frequently. Must have 20/35 or correctable vision in each eye. Must conform to all safety procedures and wear steel-toed shoes.
Work Hours: 12am-8am Monday through Friday. We are customer driven and the schedule may change based on customer orders. Must be flexible to work weekends when necessary.

Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent, three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Must Pass criminal background check and drug screen.
- Demonstrated Mechanical aptitude.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should know about and have demonstrated ability to learn the Manufacturing software currently in use at the facility.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Demonstrated ability to speak/communicate effectively.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Routine exposure to a noisy environment. Climbs stairs and / or ladders. This position very frequently lifts from 10 lbs. to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
