ConMet’s Technical Center in Vancouver, WA has an immediate need for a Test Engineer. This position is responsible for verifying conceptual designs and validating products, as well as design and construction of new test machines and fixturing for structural and accelerated fatigue component testing.
ConMet is a leading manufacturer of components for the Heavy Truck Industry. ConMet designs, engineers, and manufactures highly engineered aluminum and iron castings for heavy duty truck chassis, die castings, proprietary wheel ends and interior plastic components. We have an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer that will work at our Technical Center in Vancouver, WA. This position verifies conceptual designs and validates products utilizing a strong mechanical aptitude, analytical competence and proficient writing and communication skills. This role requires design and construction of new test machines and fixturing for structural and accelerated fatigue component testing. The successful candidate will be a motivated, hands-on, quick thinker with a strong mechanical aptitude. This position provides internal support for ConMet’s Design Engineers, Innovation Engineering, Sales Staff and Field Service Representatives.
Responsibilities:
- Design test equipment and test fixtures to validate new products for all three company divisions.
- Conduct tests and document test activities which may include structural analysis, stress analysis, testing, and interpretation of results both informally and in formal design reviews and design validation.
- Document test activities with instructions, forms, standards, and specifications.
- Develop new test specifications and procedures for vehicle components that will correlate to customer vehicle end-of-life cycles.
- Responsible for designing test fixtures, which apply proper loading condition to truck components that help to verify failure modes and the associated stress levels.
- Travel to customer’s test site or fleet shops to conduct vehicle data acquisition and provide complete technical reports for the respective project. Estimate 10% Travel.
- Collect and analyze data during testing activities, which may include, reliability analysis, fatigue testing/analysis and tolerance stack-up probability.
- Design test procedures and specifications based upon all available customer specifications and quality requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Previous testing experience preferred.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions utilizing strong analytical competence.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Proficient writing and communication skills.
- Preferred computer skills: MS Office, ProE, AutoCAD, nCode, Glyphworks, Weibull Analysis, NI Labview, DVP&R, SimaPlot, MathCAD, any FEA.
