The University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing (UM-IHC) is recruiting for a tenure-track scientist or physician-scientist with expertise in informatics, big data including -omics, and clinical phenotyping to serve as Director of Data Analytics at UM-IHC.

The UM-IHC is a large-scale initiative focusing on computational and analytical methods to build a learning health system for improving the quality of life and longevity of the citizens of Maryland. The UM-IHC, located in North Bethesda, MD, is a collaborative effort of the University of Maryland Baltimore, the University of Maryland College Park, and the University of Maryland Medical System, funded with initial grants from the State of Maryland’s MPower initiative and Montgomery County, MD. A key focus of this role is innovating applied Data Analytics and supporting implementation of Data Analytics to other areas of focus at UM-IHC, including population health, clinical trials, therapeutic target discovery, and education and training. Applicants with an outstanding record of research accomplishments, publications, and external funding commensurate with their academic stage are encouraged to apply.

The selected candidate will collaborate with other faculty members at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the University of Maryland College of Computing, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences, and other schools of the University of Maryland System, as well as physicians and data scientists from the University of Maryland Medical System. Faculty applying should be experienced with big data with allied expertise in clinical medicine. This includes skill sets in mult-omics analyses, functional genetics, network medicine, and next-generation analytical methods (such as artificial intelligence and machine learning). They should have experience leading a research program with a track record of securing independent extramural funding and publishing senior author manuscripts. Qualified candidates are researchers who are already exploring how data science can be merged with phenotpying methodologies in the context of early diagnosis, biomarker discovery, prognostication, and/or clinical trial design. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise and mentor staff and fellows within the UM-IHC, and may provide clinical service in their selected field.

Qualifications


Qualified candidates will contribute to the research, teaching and/or clinical missions of the University, sustain an externally funded individual research program consistent with the School of Medicine’s vision, and enhance research opportunities for other School of Medicine faculty and trainees. If the candidate will provide patient care through clinical responsibilities, a medical degree from a recognized accredited university (or foreign equivalent) is required and candidates must be BC/BE, and eligible for a license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland.

Expected faculty rank for this position is Associate Professor or higher, however, final rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
