JOB DESCRIPTION/REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) invites applications for multiple tenure-track assistant professor positions in cybersecurity. Successful applicants will have earned a Ph.D. degree in computer engineering, cybersecurity, computer science, or closely related areas. Applicants should demonstrate (a) the potential for scholarly activities that are supported by externally funded contracts and grants in an area of cybersecurity, (b) a commitment to teach and mentor students in the area of cybersecurity and computer engineering, and (c) a desire for university and professional service. The successful candidate is expected to collaborate with the UAH Center for Cybersecurity Research and Education (CCRE). Candidates with significant academic records may be considered for positions at the Associate or Full professor levels.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department offers Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in electrical, computer and cybersecurity engineering, Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in electrical and computer engineering (shared with The University of Alabama in Birmingham), interdisciplinary M.S. degrees in software engineering and cybersecurity. Our faculty is currently comprised of 18 tenure-track/tenured members and 4 full-time lecturers. Our student body includes approximately 750 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Our faculty’s research interests include electronic devices, applied electromagnetics and optics, signal and image processing, Internet-of-Things, computer systems, cybersecurity, and software engineering. The Department is engaged in a wide range of research activities currently funded by NSF, DOD, NASA, DOE, USDA, NSA, Redstone Arsenal, the State of Alabama, and several corporate sponsors.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

The College of Engineering is comprised of five departments and has the largest enrollment of the university’s five academic colleges. The research focus in the college includes three of several National Academy of Engineering (NAE) grand challenge problems - secure cyberspace; restore and improve urban infrastructure; and engineer tools of scientific discovery.

ABOUT THE CENTER FOR CYBERSECURITY RESEARCH AND EDUCATION:

The Center for Cybersecurity Research and Education (CCRE) is an interdisciplinary center that conducts applied cybersecurity research and development. The center actively collaborates with UAH faculty, staff, and students and employs 42 full-time research staff. CCRE conducts research for the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Standards and Technology, US Army, US Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Security Agency, US Navy and many corporations. Research strengths of CCRE include cyber physical system and industrial control system security, malware analysis, cyber-attack modeling and simulation, software assurance, cybersecurity education, intrusion detection, and cybersecurity test and evaluation. CCRE research expenditures exceeded $9M in 2022.

UAH is ranked as R1 – Very high research activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutes of Higher Education and offers academic and research programs in the Colleges of Nursing, Business, Engineering, Science, Education, and Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. Huntsville maintains one of the highest per capita incomes and standards of living in the Southeast. It is a national center of aerospace and high technology research. Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville is designated as a Federal Center of Excellence and is home to multiple large federal government agencies, military commands, and centers from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Missile Defense Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. UAH faculty, staff, and students conduct research with Redstone Arsenal staff across many disciplines.
