SCOPE OF POSITION:
The William Booth Center’s VETERAN ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR for the VTP Program is responsible for the coordination and oversight of community-based organizational and VA-based programs and activities provided both within the William Booth Center facility as well as in the community. This position will work to ensure programs and activities are consistent with the mission and goals of The Salvation Army William Booth Center as well as the expectations of the VA Grant and Per Diem Program known as VTP as stated in the contract. This position will contribute to an enriched and robust quality of life as well as enhancing opportunities for the Veterans to increase self-sufficiency.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
- HS Diploma or GED and
- Minimum of 1-year experience in working with homeless Veterans and knowledge of Veteran’s services offered at the VA and in the community
- Experience working with persons experiencing homelessness in shelter / residential programs preferred
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute events
- Excellent time-management and scheduling abilities
- WA State Driver’s License

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:
- Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel required
- Microsoft PowerPoint, helpful
- Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.
- Ability to use copier/scanner/fax required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Director and/or Long-term Program Manager in developing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive program which delivers quality and diverse programming opportunities to Veterans involved in the VTP Program at the WBC.
- Maintain and expand community partnerships in support of Veteran’s service programming.
- Educate CBO staff on TSA/WBC policies and procedures.
- Initiate proposals for and assist CBO’s in managing, planning and coordinating trainings/events and leisure activities designed to promote self-sufficiency as well as enhance quality of life.
- Coordinate and implement all in-house VTP and General House Meetings to include creating marketing materials and promotion of events via spoken and written announcements and to encourage maximum attendance by all residents.
- Effectively lead, motivate, supervise and evaluate the programs given by CBOs and VA partners and report findings to Program Manager and Director.
- Assess program needs and develop new programming initiatives.
- Act as a VTP resident advocate, providing Case Manager approved guidance and appropriate referrals to VTP involved Veterans seeking assistance.
- Actively coordinate and/or participate in appropriate community-based committees, task forces, and professional associations and conferences.
- Participate in training and supervision and demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the safe and effective performance of the William Booth Shelter operational guidelines.
- Ability to: learn and act upon new information; work cooperatively with individuals and groups; exercise mature and sound judgment in problem solving and the decision-making process; organize own work; present material properly and accurately document activities.
- In the absence of on-duty management, respond to and provide crisis intervention and institute security procedures should a critical or threatening situation arise. Provide timely and appropriate notification to police, fire, emergency medical and supervisory authorities.
- Maintain statistical records, reports, logs, files and other required documentation.
- Work cooperatively with other Salvation Army staff and programs.
- Given the critical nature of duties associated with this position, ensures timely reporting for duty and contact with supervisory staff prior to the scheduled start of shift, should sick leave become necessary.
- Ensures that case records, social services systems (e.g. HMIS, Wellsky, Bridges & Others) and all required forms and reports are maintained in prescribed format.
- Ability and willingness to respect and maintain the confidentiality of client information in compliance with Salvation Army policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to understand and fully comply with mandatory reporting requirements and laws pertaining to vulnerable adults.
- Comply with Salvation Army procedural requirements, including those set forth in the Policy & Procedure Manual and Employee Handbook.
- All other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to rapidly travel over uneven surfaces, up and down steps, up and down ramps and to climb stepladders, as necessary to perform duties of the position.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
- Ability to lift up to 45 lbs.
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods of time in heavy traffic situations and to navigate unknown areas with confidence using own knowledge or GPS support.
- Manual dexterity to type as well as ability to assemble systems for presentation such as overhead projectors and/or monitors for presentations.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.
Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.
Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.
Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time.
Paid Vacation:
- Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
- Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
- Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.
Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
