Overview of Role
:

Performs a variety of trailhead maintenance tasks on Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) properties as assigned by OSMP staff. There is a heavy emphasis on independence and problem-solving, as we work with a small crew often. Provides a great opportunity to see all of OSMP lands, communicate directly with the community, and collaborate with other work groups.

Crew member positions do not need prior experience to be successful. A willingness to learn new skills, work safely with others, and contribute to a positive and productive work environment can be substituted for previous direct experience.

The starting pay for this position is $18.30 - $22.40 hourly, commensurate with experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Cyclical janitorial dutie s – 30 -40%
  • Trash, recycling, and compost removal at trail heads and access points
  • Cleans and maintains outhouses at OSMP facilities by hand and with power washing equipment
  • General main tenance of trailheads and associated facilities – 60 -70%
  • Repairs trailhead structures such as fences and gates
  • Ensure and maintain accessible amenities around trailheads
  • Vegetation management – mowing, trimming, weed whipping, and removal of invasive plants by other methods
  • Parking lot repair – filling and repairing potholes by hand and grading surfaces with equipment
  • TH infrastructure repair and construction – picnic areas, parking bollards, timber steps, etc.
  • Snow removal in winter season
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Work with Contract Crews and Volunteers – 10 -20%
  • Lead and direct the work of contract work crews, jail crew, volunteers, community and court-ordered service persons on TH related tasks

  • Safety Awareness : Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Uses all proper safety equipment. Reports all accidents and damage to city property.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Driving skill, experience and acceptable motor vehicle record; current Colorado license required

Preferred Competencies:
  • General Maintenance Techniques: Transferable skills, such as landscaping, construction, trail or trailhead maintenance.
  • Learning Strategies: Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things, including creative, one-of-a kind methods.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment
  • Ability to drive large mirror dependent trucks with/without trailers

What you will learn on the job:
  • CPR and First Aid
  • Experience with various hand and power tools
  • Volunteer and contract crew training
WORK SCHEDULE:

Is either Tuesday through Friday or Monday through Thursday, generally 6:00 am-4:30 pm. The schedule may vary with business needs but is generally April to November.

WORKING CONDITIONS – Required Physical and Mental Effort and Environmental Conditions:

Physical and Mental Effort: Ability to perform a wide range of strenuous physical and manual tasks in an outdoor environment. Physical ability to stand, walk, and kneel. Upper body strength to lift up to 40 pounds on a daily basis and over 60 pounds on an occasional basis. Able to hike over uneven terrain.
Work Environment: Standard office equipment including personal computers, telephones.
