Job Summary

Receives and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency telephone calls from the public. Processes information using a computer-aided-dispatch (CAD) system. Dispatches appropriate emergency service agencies such as police, fire and emergency medical units. Monitors public safety units in the field via radio and other computer systems. Retrieves and enters computer data for emergency response personnel within the service area. Knowledge of basic office practices and procedures; ability to communicate effectively orally. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations is required.

Work schedule will be 5:30am – 5:30pm (day shift) on rotating days, as well as, other times, shifts and days as required for the operational needs of the 9-1-1 center. Note: Orientation and new employee training may occur during different hours and shifts (daytime) to accommodate the needs and requirements of training.

Minimum Qualifications

High School/GED; Applicant will be required to submit a copy of HS diploma or GED.

Possession of or ability to obtain NC Sheriffs Education & Training Standards telecommunicator certification, Department of Criminal Information operator certification, CPR certification, Emergency Medical Dispatch & Emergency Fire Dispatch certification, ICS 100/200/700/800, hazardous materials awareness and blood borne pathogens training within one year of employment.

Special Requirements

No felony convictions; No single Class B misdemeanor conviction within ten years of application; No convictions of two or more Class B misdemeanors ever, regardless of conviction date.

Salary

Salary grade 57; $36,206
