About the Position
The Technical Consultant Solar Engineering will act as a subject matter expert for NEI, providing high level guidance on complex projects while overseeing the creation and implementation of standards and QA/QC. This position will have a high level of autonomy and involve technical leadership, mentoring, and engineering responsibilities.
This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, Colorado) and full-time remote candidates.
Essential Responsibilities
- Spearheads the creation and implementation of standards and provides technical leadership and guidance for QA/QC on solar engineering projects
- Act as a subject matter expect overseeing the technical quality of strategic and complex projects
- Works closely with the Technical Director on technical development within the group
- Performs detailed design of all aspects of Photovoltaic (PV) Electrical Power Systems including string sizing, array layouts, tracker power and communication, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, Balance of System/Plant equipment details, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, equipment specifications, and project schedules
- Prepares computer-based models and performs power system studies on utility scale PV power plants including short circuit, load flow, relay coordination, arc flash, collection system grounding, harmonic analysis, and other related studies
- Drafts, reviews, and approves energy yield calculations using energy simulation tools such as PVSYST and SAM
- Act as the Client primary technical point of contact for PV Electrical on assigned projects
- Reviews equipment data sheets, manuals, and testing reports for design and approvals
- Seek opportunities for value engineering and efficiencies in design
- Reviews and verifies the work of engineers, designers, drafters, and field service personnel for general quality and accuracy
- Supports business development via Seller-Doer, assists with marketing tasks, and prepares proposals as needed
- Assist with establishing and managing engineering budget and scope expectations. Prepare technical write-up for applicable change orders
- Reviews submittals for conformance with client specifications and design
- Provides field assistance, troubleshooting, and observation reports
- Maintains professional understanding of all applicable Codes and Standards, and construction practices
- Maintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationships, particularly for communication pertaining to specific assignments and meeting topics
- Maintains high ethical and professional standards
- Works additional time beyond 40 hours/week to complete projects, proposals and/or administrative functions, as required
- Attends conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work
- Attends safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines
- Other job-related responsibilities as assigned
Must Have
- Experience: 5+ years of engineering or relevant field experience
- Education: Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, electric power option preferred
- Licensure: PE
- A strong written and verbal command of the English language
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
- Professional, articulate, and able to exercise good independent judgement and discretion
- Highly organized, motivated self-starter
- Proven record of delivering a high standard of quality work with attention to detail
- Comfortable working with limited information to create system designs and plans
- Flexible and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment with a quickly growing team
- Good interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills; ability to interact successfully at all levels of the organization; high emotional intelligence
- Ability to develop staff through mentoring and coaching
- A strong command of the English language
Nice to Have
- Proficiency with AutoCAD
- High proficiency with power system software such as DIgSILENT/PowerFactory, EasyPower, ETAP or SKM, CDEGS, and CYMCAP preferred
- Proficiency in PVsyst, SAM and other PV specific software packages preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and standard computer software
Working Conditions
Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office setting and some field work is also required
Travel:
Minimal: 0 10%

Must be able to lift 25lbs.
Managerial Responsibility:
The Team Lead is responsible for managing their own work and schedule and the work and schedule of their team, with input from supervisor, and completing assigned tasks. The Team Lead will mentor, coach, and develop the employees on their team toward fulfilling their individual career aspirations
Team Member should identify discrepancies in assigned work and bring to attention of supervisor or engineer responsible for the project in a timely manner. Team Members teams work product should be self-checked in a manner that is suitable for review by the supervisor or engineer responsible for the project
