Supervises the work responsibilities of a survey crew. Organizes work based on survey plans; researches computer and superior court records. Provides survey information to engineers, private industries, other personnel, and the general public. Trains, assigns, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel. Directs and communicates with instrument and rod persons to ensure proper and accurate information and exact measurements. Operates field equipment including total stations, GPS, robotic instruments, and field computers. Ensures proper care and maintenance of survey equipment and vehicle. Supervises data collection for storm water system mapping; downloads information gathered by crew to private contractors. Carries out a continuous effort to improve operations, work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide continuous improvement and customer-driven service. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying. Knowledge of the principles and practices of records maintenance. Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Skill in problem solving and decision making. Skill in reading maps, blueprints, and other reference tables. Skill in the specialized tools and instruments used in drafting and surveying. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the supervision of personnel.

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to two years experience or service.

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.
