Job description
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Serving as a resource for nursing practice and provides leadership for nursing staff in the absence of the nurse manager.
- Coordinates and maintains the required training and competencies of staff.
- Provides leadership and guidance to assigned staff. Identifies learning opportunities, provides effective coaching and feedback, and develops corrective action plans as appropriate.
- Ensures the practice complies with Federal and State regulatory standards.
- Evaluates staff competencies by direct observation, peer overview, orientation and employee input, documenting this in the appropriate system.
- Promotes and monitors regulatory agency standards and customer service expectations for the practice in all aspects of nursing.
- Consistently adhering to staffing patterns of nursing units and collaborates with nurse manager to ensure that staffing is consistent with patient needs.
- Recruiting additional staff when needed to replace callouts and supplement existing staff as indicated.
- Regularly identifying and investigating all nursing staff or patient care problems
- Consistently demonstrating the use of sound clinical judgment in assessing patient care and nursing practice
- Providing input to annual performance appraisals and assisting with completion of appraisals, as needed
- Obtain necessary equipment, supplies and pharmaceuticals.
- Responding to all emergency situations
- Able to efficiently assign admissions to appropriate Units.
- Assisting with and intervening, when necessary, to provide a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
- Routinely responding to patient and staff inquiries promptly and providing appropriate follow through
- Consistently demonstrating the ability to adapt to changing priorities and responding appropriately to alterations in workload, staff levels and fluctuations in census and acuity.
- Communicating and sharing information with staff on a regular basis.
- Keeping employees informed of new policies, procedures, new programs and other pertinent information.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills; strong management/supervisory skills; high degree of accuracy in all assignments; ability to work independently and manage time efficiently; high degree of initiative and creativity; good judgment; ability to employ professional ethics, and excellent analytical and clinical knowledge. Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.

- Requires interaction with co-workers, residents.
- Weekend, evening or night work if needed to ensure shift coverage.
- On-Call Required
- 24 Hour Accountability

- Reach with hands and arms.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases and infections
- Potential injury from transferring, repositioning, or lifting residents.
- Talk or hear.
- Exposure to latex
- Ability to lift: Up to 50 pounds.
- Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens
If you possess the following qualifications, please apply immediately:
- Associates degree in Nursing preferred.
- Current Pennsylvania LPN/RN license, active and in good standing is required.
- CPR certification through the American Heart Association required
- Previous staff nurse experience, with 5 years management or supervisory experience required.
- Proficient in Acute and Chronic Medical Diagnosis (Medical Surgical experience preferred).
- Successful completion of a skills-based test required.
