SON-Life Camp is a non-denominational camp located in Wayland, Michigan – about halfway between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. We are set on 40 beautiful acres with plenty of room to have fun and enjoy God’s creation.

SON-Life Camp’s summer camp program offers a wide variety of experiences for children as young as six to teens as old as seventeen. We strive to design our summer camp programs to be relevant and reach today’s young people where they are.

Our facilities include cabins, a retreat center (meeting space, bathrooms and showers, offices, game room), dining hall, recreation fields, a variety of outdoor activity areas (archery, tomahawks, gaga, moleball, volleyball, low initiatives, and more) and a waterfront area (beach, shallow and deep swim areas, blob, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, paddleboats, speed boat tubing) set on a beautiful lake.

We can host around 50 campers per week, and generally hire a summer staff of around 18 individuals. With SON-Life Camp being smaller in size, we are able to give campers a more personal experience during their week of camp, where no one has to worry about getting lost in the shuffle. Our summer ministry team becomes an intimate and cohesive group ilding friendships that last long beyond summer camp.

Our summer cook is one of the most important positions at our camp. Our program is 7.5 weeks long and runs Monday-Friday. We serve 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. Serving around 80 people at each meal and 30-50 people at each snack.

DATES 2023:

● Staff Training — June 8-17

● Junior Escape 1 & Day Camp 1 (First week with campers) — June 19-20

● Outpost Expedition — June 26- June 28

● Week off - 4th of July week — July 3-7

● Junior Escape 2 & Day Camp 2 — July 10-14

● Teen Extreme— July 17-21

● Junior Escape 3 & Primary Experience — July 24-28

● Junior Escape 4 & Day Camp 3 — July 31-August 5

QUALIFICATIONS

● At least 18 years of age

● 1+ year of experience working in a kitchen

● ServSafe and Allergen Safety Certified (or ability to gain certification within 90 days of hire; company to pay for)

● Ability to lift heavy objects and be on feet for long periods of time.

● Possess a sincere desire to work with children, staff, and a genuine concern for others.

● Be committed to an open, honest, and effective community that promotes understanding among all staff members.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

1. Responsible for the total food program.

2. Be in charge of all kitchen staff.

3. Develop and write up weekly menus.

4. Order and/or pick up food on a weekly basis in cooperation with directors.

5. Prepare meals and snacks for all camp and staff meals.

6. Make up a work schedule, with time off, for kitchen staff and volunteers.

7. Keep the kitchen and equipment clean and orderly.

8. Report all kitchen and equipment needs/repairs to the Executive Director.

9. Be aware of the spiritual atmosphere of camp and work towards those goals.

10. Make every effort to build a sense of community and understanding among all staff members.

11. Attend camp meetings as needed.

COMPENSATION:

● $450 a week (7.5 weeks)
