Camp Cheerful, Strongsville
A day in the life of the Camp Intervention Specialist can look like:
- Implementing lesson plans and schedules with our Sensational ESY students in a 50% camp 50% academic program.
- Working with Cheerful Day students on socialization and behavior goals throughout their exciting camp day!
- Assisting the students access all Camp Cheerful has to offer, including our on-site swimming pool, visits to the barn and our 11 horses, hiking, canoeing, fishing, and much more!
Camp Cheerful is a beautiful 52 acre facility that is part of the well-respected Achievement Centers for Children (ACC). Since 1940 ACC has been empowering children and adults with disabilities and their families to achieve their greatest potential. Located in the Mill Steam Run Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks in Strongsville, Ohio, Camp Cheerful provides campers all the traditional camp activities!
The Details:
- $600 stipend per week
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be a licensed Intervention Specialist in the state of Ohio and comfortable tracking data related to IEP goals
- Minimum 2 years classroom experience preferred
- Set weekly work schedule, Monday through Friday, from 8:00am-5:00pm. Students attend 9:30am-3:30pm.
- Staff Training week June 5th to June 9th
- Including CPR, First Aid and AED certification, Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification, lots of information about disabilities and abilities and how to be a GREAT summer camp counselor!
- Sensational ESY Camp runs June 12th through August 4th
- Campers are between the ages of 5 to 22 with disabilities
- We serve a wide range of disabilities including cognitive, physical, developmental and neurological, although a high number of individuals with autism attend the Sensational Program
- We provide a 1 counselor to 2 camper ratio in Sensational; 1 counselor to 3 camper ratio in Cheerful Day
