OUC - The Reliable One, an industry leader and the second largest municipal utility in Florida committed to serving the community and the environment is presently recruiting for an Electrician III to be part of our growing team in the Trans, Substation, & Sys Protection Department.

We are looking for a technical and knowledgeable individual to assist substation maintenance electricians in the maintenance of all substation equipment.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Eighteen (18) months experience in commercial/industrial wiring or HV wiring (required)
  • Must be able to comprehend instruction manuals and participate in electrical training
  • Must have completed a basic AC& DC electrical course
  • Ability to read schematic and wiring diagrams
  • CDL Class “A” License

Salary Range: $27.06 per hour (will receive a review every 6 months)

Job Purpose:

The Electrician III will assist Substation Maintenance Electricians in the maintenance of all substation equipment. They will work under the direction of a Crew leader on a two or three person crew maintaining substation equipment or other assigned duties as necessary


Primary Functions:

  • Work with crews maintaining all substation equipment under leadership of Electrician I
  • Assist crew in Transmission & Distribution switching activities
  • Review job assignments and safety procedures each morning per OSHA with Crew Leader
  • Assist in preparing vehicle for next assignment with tools and equipment
  • Help insure all job-related equipment needs, crew needs, etc. are met (i.e. tools, trucks, parts, etc.)
  • Check Truck stock and insure assigned tools and materials are on vehicle
  • Review training requirements for Electrician III and prepare for promotional assessments
  • Study Safety work Practices manual


Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to work in small groups under extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather)
  • Must be able to demonstrate good mechanical skills
  • Must have a good driving record
  • Must be able to distinguish colors
  • Must be available for after hours and weekend work and respond to emergency call-out as needed
  • Must not have a fear of heights or of working in confined spaces

Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Eighteen (18) months experience in commercial/industrial wiring or HV wiring (required)
  • Must be able to comprehend instruction manuals and participate in electrical training
  • Ability to read schematic and wiring diagrams
  • CDL Class “A” License required, or ability to achieve within six months
  • Must have completed a basic AC&DC electrical course
  • Understanding of AC& DC electrical principles and good mechanical skills
  • Required to complete a Training manual demonstrating Electrical/Mechanical abilities, Reading comprehension, memory retention and ability to organize tasks by themselves


Working Conditions:

This job may involve frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions, heights, and confined spaces. This job may involve occasional exposure to some disagreeable elements (dust, heat, and other elements, fumes, cold, noise, vibration or wetness).


Physical Requirements:

This job includes very frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 20 pounds, speaking/hearing as well as monitoring/operating a crew truck. This job includes frequent pushing, pulling, reaching over head, lifting up to 40 pounds, detailed inspection/reading and writing.
