ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT
The Student Engagement Office proudly supports Jeffco in the areas of Dropout Prevention, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Indian Education, Fostering Opportunities, Restorative Practices, and Substance Misuse Intervention. The Office serves a range of stakeholders to include students and families, school-based teams, central teams, and a high number of community partners in order to improve the outcomes and experiences of students and young adults. Hourly Rate: $26.07, Annual Rate: $42,753.00 Effective as of: 08-16-2022
**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT
The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
SUMMARY:
Grant funded position responsible for supporting students and families with school engagement. The population will be Native American/Indigenous students K-12 who have been identified as being at risk of not completing the school year or who have discontinued school. This role is responsible for identifying strengths and barriers to school success and developing and monitoring intervention plans. This work requires facilitating connections to school and community resources as well as understanding policies and eligibility criteria in order to facilitate services. Must have extensive knowledge of the strengths of Native American/Indigenous Students and experience working successfully with and advocating for these communities. This position supports cultural activities and events with students, families, and community that necessitate some nights and weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Support a caseload of 45+ students who have dropped out of school or are at-risk of dropping out of school.
Run reports and conduct direct outreach to students who have dropped out.
Respond to a high number of requests to provide guidance and support from schools and families related to students who have disengaged from school.
Prioritize support and time to efficiently and effectively serve a diverse range of student needs.
Communicate effectively and efficiently with a variety of stakeholders on a regular basis to include families, students, school administrators and community partners.
Facilitate problem solving meetings that may range from 2 or 3 involved parties to more than 8 interested agents/agencies.
Coordinate and facilitate meetings with students and families at school, community partner locations, government, or service provider facilities in the community.
Facilitate district, school, and community trainings related to school engagement.
Coordinate and facilitate behavior intervention and social emotional learning groups.
Collaborate with local human services and mental/behavioral health providers.
Collaborate with school personnel to promote a successful plan of support for students with attendance issues.
Collaborate with district, school, and community departments, programs, and partners for the purposes of information sharing when appropriate.
Counsel students regarding future education and career goals.
Assist students and families in accessing support and resources.
Facilitate conferences with families and students, as appropriate, including information on school and program options in Jefferson County.
Facilitate substance abuse counseling for students and families by giving appropriate resources, referral for service, and follow up to ensure student enrollment.
Provide families and students information regarding resources available in local government and non-profit agencies.
Maintain case notes, logs and documentation on student progress (enrollment, attendance, discipline, academics, contacts, meetings, and referrals).
Conduct home visits as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Bachelor Degree preferred. Coursework in human services, social work, psychology recommended. Training in Motivational Interviewing, Restorative Practices, Diversity/Equity, Youth Mental Health First Aid, QPR, recommended.
EXPERIENCE: 2 or more years' experience supporting opportunity youth. Demonstrated experience working with multiple systems to include school district, youth, and community resources; experience working with students who have attendance challenges.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Requires oral communication, basic writing, interpersonal, phone etiquette, and computer and office software. Have the ability to interact well with students, parents/families, schools, and community agencies. Requires moderate level of training in area of specialty. Bilingual english/spanish a plus.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Valid Colorado's driver's license, CPR and first aid training preferred. Must have reliable transportation.
SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position serves as a resource to other building personnel regarding students and attendance best practices.
CONTACTS: Daily contact with persons within/outside department/building, students, families, the general public, Juvenile Assessment Center, probation system, Human services, JCMH, advisory committees, and/or District departments to address student engagement and family/community challenges. Contacts may involve somewhat sensitive matters involving problems and/or highly confidential information or data.
SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: Medium exposure to self to repetitive motion injuries due to keyboarding.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING: Work is diversified and may require detailed analysis to determine practical courses of action. This analysis may involve adapting and modifying guidelines when appropriate. Decision making includes a level of independent judgment and using available information and date to make appropriate decision. Using established policies set forth by the Student Engagement Office and District approved policies/procedures regarding the conduct code book.
