The KyCC VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) program places VISTA members throughout the Commonwealth to combat poverty and build capacity in community organizations, Kentucky colleges and universities, the Appalachian Region and the Kentucky Promise Zone.

Position Description

Student Activities Assistant:

Somerset Community College (SCC) is a public institution that provides high quality, affordable and accessible education and training to communities in the Southern Kentucky region. The SCC Student Activities Assistant will provide regular, consistent, and engaging programming for students, employees, and the community, both face-to-face and virtually, to create an engaging and supportive student college experience similar to that found at large universities. The Student Activities Assistant will assist with building relationships between students, their families, college staff, faculty, alumni, and the community. These activities are expected to increase student engagement which leads to improved academic success, persistence, and completion, as well as improved student mental health, improved employee morale, increase student recruitment, and better alumni relationships.

Qualifications

• HS Degree/GED
• 18+ years old
• Experience planning and organizing student activities
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Ability to complete tasks with limited supervision
• Background check required

VISTA Terms & Benefits

• Full-time (40 hours/week), one-year commitment
• Monthly living allowance of $1,350 per month
