Job Title: Folding Carton Package Designer

Reports To: Packaging Design Manager

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Purpose of Position:

A Project Packaging Engineer creates and prepares CAD layouts and mockups for customer projects under the direction of the Packaging Design Manager. They work closely with the Sales and Customer Service teams, handling questions and problems impacting product structure and specifications. Another responsibility of the Structural Designer is to assist in managing cutting die and cyrel plate quotes, orders, and inventory.

Essential Responsibilities:

· Handle requestsfor CAD mockups and dielines (SMURFs)

· Request sample stock from Purchasing as needed

· Design or modify designs to achieve production efficiency – automation, if possible

· Work with estimators on die pricing and production layouts; providing tools such as assembly videos, drawing, etc.

· Run die cost estimates via online quote system

· Add tasks/ update status of request on CADD dashboard as needed

· Create layouts for optimizing paper usage

· Layout and cut coating blankets as needed

· Notch Cyrel plates for press department

· Run plotter for short production runs as needed

· Provide back up for Package Design Manager as needed

· Assist in developing “Good Fit” products for JR Sales

· Collaborate with die cutter operators on best practices for die layouts

· Provide technical support and advice for sales / clients regarding structural design

· Provide creative solutions to address customer needs for packaging, etc.

Skills and Abilities:

· Working knowledge of CAD programs and their various applications.

· Use hand tools or machines needed to perform operations appropriately and safely.

· Measure, cut or otherwise work on materials or objects with great precision and accuracy.

· Use arithmetic or shop geometry to figure and verify amounts or material needed, or to be ordered, dimensions to be followed and cost of materials.

· Identify and avoid errors in work.

· Visualize what the finished product will look like.

· Solve problem using facts, problem-solving tools and personal judgment.

· Interpret data and make recommendations to others, using effective verbal and written communication skills

· Deal with various kinds of people in a friendly, professional manner.

Requirements:

Physical Demands:

Requires 100% color vision acuity and 100% field vision capabilities.

Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but will involve walking or standing for periods of time.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24.00 - $27.00 per hour
