Position Summary

The ideal candidate for this position is self-motivated, self-disciplined, and able to work independently. Strong interpersonal and writing skills are critical. The candidate will perform a variety of engineering work including but not limited to, initial planning, design phases, and construction support of the projects. May also support projects with engineering knowledge and experience. Performs other duties as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop plans and models using AutoCAD, NAVIS, Civil 3D, and Micro Station
  • Support and interface with the design and drafting group
  • Utilize relevant software
  • Prepare engineering reports, specifications, and other deliverables associated with design projects
  • Provide detailed engineering input to all design phases, including interpret and challenge standards
  • Perform regular and timely technical reviews of civil engineering deliverables developed by engineering consultants / contractors, ensuring design quality in compliance with relevant codes, standards, and best practices
  • Perform engineering calculations/analyses
  • Provide practical engineering support to the construction/commissioning phases of projects
  • Prepare routine documentation of all field activities and testing
  • Prepare field reports, internal correspondence, and sections of formal reports
  • Effectively communicate to the client, project team and TRC management, including timely accurate internal and external reporting, executing effective efficient project meetings and ensuring communication between all project disciplines.
  • Project safety, demonstrating safety is a priority via safety leadership, adherence to TRC and client safety policies and standards.
  • Prepare requisitions and technical evaluation of bids, for buildings, discipline material and equipment procurement.
  • Prepares bid clarification questions and handles responses, and coordinates / chairs technical aspects of bid clarification meetings.
  • Coordination with allied disciplines in preparation and development of deliverables.
  • Takes responsibility for study, design, specification and services related to the engineering discipline
Requirements:

Education:

Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or similar/related field, from an accredited school or University is required.

Professional Experience:

Minimum of 5 - 10 years' experience predominantly in the Power delivery sector

Licenses, Certifications, Credentials, or Other Requirements:

Registered as a Professional Engineer, PREFERRED, taken and successfully passed the Professional Engineering (PE) Exam or Pursuit of a Professional Engineer license is strongly desired.

Program Experience:

L-Pile, RISA 3-D, RISA Foundation, Matt 3-D, SAP2000, STAAD, MathCad, AutoCad, Office Suite

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have excellent oral / written communication skills and ability to work well in teams
  • Ability to apply analytical or scientific thinking to define and solve problems and be able to execute field and office tasks
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel (required)
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ACI, AISC, ASCE, ASTM, ANSI, API, IBC, OSHA, PIP etc.)
  • Knowledge of engineering computer programs and general business software
  • Ability to make independent decisions
  • Strong attention to details
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate
  • Ability to identify and develop solutions to complex problems or seek guidance from more experienced engineers
  • Ability to work flexible hours, occasionally in excess of a normal 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule
  • Ability to travel as dictated by project requirements
  • Must have experience leading small to medium sized Mechanical / Piping / Electrical engineering design teams
  • Must have experience working with high value engineering centers and in an engineering consultant environment
  • Requires proven team leadership experience.
