This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, materials and equipment necessary for support of surgical services and other departments. Demonstrates experience, training, initiative, good judgment and resourcefulness in problem solving. Works under supervision with specific guidelines and standards for operations. Will provide direction, guidance, supervision, and oversight of line level personnel. Will prioritize tasks, assist the manager in the preparation of reports, assist with ordering of supplies, and will ensure that the customer service provided by the department is exceptional. Will utilize emotionally intelligent work principles and will focus on positive resolution of issues as much as possible. Will assist in the development of staff including staff evaluations and education. Will have a strong sense of ownership and will actively work to ensure that the needs of the department are met, even when not on duty. Understands that as a departmental leader, it may be necessary to work odd shifts or fill in with little or no notice. Must be willing to perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician required. Advance certification preferred from IAHCSMM or CBSPD. BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross preferred.
  • HS Diploma or GED required
  • At least 2 years of instrument processing with competency in all areas: orthopedics, cardiovascular, neuro, gyn, etc.
  • Medical terminology and familiarity with surgical instrumentation. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Must be able to read and speak English fluently.
