SUMMARY

Child Care Resources Inc., a non-profit/not-for-profit child care resource and referral agency, is seeking a driven, process-focused Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. This position provides the opportunity to be hands-on in all of CCRI programs, develop cross-functional relationships, increase financial acumen, improve accounting processes, interact with external auditors and develop leadership skills.

This position will be integral to the ongoing fiscal, budgetary, and operational support for the Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership (EHS-CCP) program. The position assists in the development and monitoring of the program budget, provides fiscal assistance for and oversight of the program’s child care partners, supports the program procurement and disbursement process and is responsible for Head Start fiscal standards and reporting requirements.

This position will also assist the Controller in managing contracts relating to Division of Child Development & Early Education (DCDEE) and Smart Start of Mecklenburg County, as well as cross-train on other general financial tasks to provide support and back-up for the agency Finance department.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the Controller in preparing and posting year-end journal entries, preparing audit schedules and bank and other account reconciliations in support of the Annual Financial Statement Audit and preparation of Form 990
  • Performs general daily and monthly accounting functions, including preparing and posting assigned month-end journal entries, preparing certain grant drawdown requests, reconciles assigned accounts and assists in resolving issues as needed
  • Perform fiscal monitoring of DCD and Smart Start of Mecklenburg County which includes ensuring all costs reported are accurate and allowable per the grant as well as working with Controller to revise/amend budgets and prepare annual contracts
  • Ensures financial records are maintained in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

EHS-CCP program:

  • Coordinate payments to EHS-CCP child care partners.
  • Prepare internal EHS-CCP Financial Reports for distribution to management, Policy Council and Board of Directors
  • Monitor budget to actual results and prepare budget revisions as needed.
  • Prepare reports to track progress with Match requirement. Maintain supporting documentation for Match expenditures or in-kind donations.
  • Prepare required financial reports to the Office of Head Start (SF-425, SF- 428 & SF-429), support fiscal monitoring and annual budget process
  • Maintain program asset inventory and supporting documentation.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration with emphasis in accounting
  • One to three years of experience in accounting in the areas of budgeting, general ledger, fixed assets, reconciliations
  • Experience with federal grants and uniform guidance, and knowledge of Head Start regulations is preferred
  • Excellent communication (verbal/written) and organizational skills required
