The Sr. Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis is responsible for management of Securian Financial's general operating expenses, including cost optimization based on enterprise strategic priorities, oversight for expense allocation framework, expense accounting and budgeting processes. This position will play an integral role in managing enterprise financials, through establishing expense guidance for businesses and shared services, and management of the planning & forecasting process, quarter close process, and overall financial management and reporting for the enterprise. Drives enterprise alignment on expense management, budgeting, and expense allocations through strategic partnerships across the enterprise.

Job Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Responsible for enterprise cost optimization, leading the annual budgeting to set and manage expense targets for our businesses and shared services
  • Establishes and manages expense governance frameworks
  • Manages the expense accounting function for Securian Financial Group
  • Establishes strategic vision for expense function of the future, and leads team to transform expense accounting function toward future state capabilities
  • Manages staff to foster continuous improvement culture
What we are looking for:
  • Proven leadership experience in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Ability to attract, retain and develop staff responsible for budgeting, cost accounting and expense reporting and analysis.
  • Understanding enterprise priorities and evaluate budget requests relative to stated goals, provide effective challenge and develop expense management recommendations
  • Experience with accounting and financial principles to effectively evaluate budget requests, new business ventures, and existing operations.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles for expense accounting.
  • Experience with subsidiary expense allocations, including transfer tax requirements, broker-dealer accounting requirements (FINRA), and intercompany allocation and invoicing best practices
  • Knowledge of industry operations and products to perform expense comparisons with other life insurance companies.
  • Communication and human relations skills in order to negotiate expense controls, resolve conflict and effectively interact with Home Office and Strategic Affiliate management.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years progressive finance responsibility
  • Proficient use of MS office products, including strong Excel and PowerPoint
  • SAP experience
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advance degree preferred, such as MBA, CPA, or CFA

Physical Job Requirements:
  • Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week.
  • Ability to utilize telephone for approximately 2-4 hours per day
