The Role
This position is in the Hosting Planning and Engineering – Architecture team that focuses on the network infrastructure across the global Lumen Data Centers. Designing, testing and documenting the architecture of new products and features that support our client base that subscribe to the Managed Hosting services.
The SR Lead Architect will be responsible for providing consultative technical expertise which includes the preparation and presentation of detailed designs and configuration blueprints for complex solutions in the areas of routing, switching, load balancing and security. The architect would be expected to be hands-on and would be eventual escalation point in case of complex issues/outages.
Contributes to the overall strategic vision of the organization and integrates a broad range of ideas regarding architecture. Recognized across the organization for architecture expertise and sought as a resource for resolution of unique or complex architecture problems. Undertakes multiple and highly complex architecture projects involving multiple disciplines and may impact multiple business units.
The Main Responsibilities
- Responsible for network, security and load balancing design, testing and documentation.
- Cisco ACI, NX-OS, Juniper, A10
- Ensures templatization compatibility across multiple areas of business.
- Leads and provides technical direction as well as hand-on required to resolve complex issues to ensure on-time delivery of solutions that meets project expectations.
- Lead special projects to complete integrations and achieve cost savings.
- Assist in maintaining and developing automation frameworks.
- Work with internal stakeholders from other business units to collaborate on new product designs.
- Review of solution architectures against compliance with both existing and emerging standards
What We Look For in a Candidate
- 10+ years related experience with Bachelor's Degree
- 8+ years related experience with Master's Degree
- Vendor Professional/Expert Level Certifications (e.g. Cisco CCNP, CCIE)
- Service provider experience is a plus
- Excellent communication skills since this role will require regular interaction with internal stakeholders.
Skills
- Routing:
- In-depth understanding of BGP, OSPF protocols.
- Switching
- In-depth understand of all flavors of spanning tree
- Security
- In-depth understanding of firewall ACLs, groups, NATs
- Good understanding of next-generation firewall features like IDS/IPS, URL filtering, SSL decryption, etc.
- Load Balancing
- In-depth understanding of Application Delivery and load balancing mechanisms
- F5/A10 desired
- In-depth understanding of Application Delivery and load balancing mechanisms
- Scripting/Automation
- Python scripting to enable automated execution of manual tasks
- HTML/Javascript to develop basic webpages
- Good understanding of REST API with use of tools like postman
- Ansible playbook development

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
