Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Training and Education, the Sr. Instructional Designer will assess, develop and implement training programs to improve job skills, enhance career development, and meet AltaMed’s Strategic Objectives. This individual will be responsible for engaging in the full instructional design and development cycle, and will also be responsible for using and recommending technology-based tools to improve the instructional integrity of all training materials. The individual must also remain current on training industry trends and incorporate them into training strategies as appropriate. The work product will be focused on the general management groups and AltaMed employee training needs.

Meets Expectations:

  • Designs and develops instructional systems in accordance with sound learning principles within the context of organizational needs.
  • Plans, assesses, organizes, develops and implements employee training programs designed to orient employees, improve job skills, and develop capabilities to meet AltaMed’s Strategic Plans and the training needs of the organization.
  • Use keen knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theory to propose learning solutions that are cost-effective, easy-to-create and maintain, visually and instructionally compelling, and that provide a rewarding experience for the learner.
  • Plans new or special training classes and demonstrations, writes new training material or adapts existing materials to immediate needs.
  • Provides project management services in the development and revision of new and existing curricula.
  • Develops and implements management and supervisory training programs to develop more effective relationships between supervisors and subordinates.
  • Ensures that all new or updated course master documentation complies with all existing design standards.
  • May supervise vendors or contractors as assigned; mentor and coach members of the instructional design team.
  • Designs training charts and other visual aids.
  • Acts as primary developer of curricula, syllabi, lesson plans, resource materials and job aids.
  • Utilizes AltaMed University on-line courses to support a blended learning approach to classroom sessions.
  • Manages time and interruptions professionally and effectively to meet production deadlines.
  • Visible alignment between Director, Sr. Instructional Designer’s role and AltaMed’s strategic initiatives.

Exceeds Expectations:

  • Consistently performs all essential job functions in the above “Meets Expectations” section.
  • Confers with management and employees to determine need for training in order to increase job proficiency and/or improve morale.
  • Schedules classes in cooperation with department heads, and arranges for speakers, on-line courses and classroom curriculum.
  • Designs, develops and maintains e-learning programs.
  • Designs evaluation strategies and tools to measure program effectiveness, and to determine whether desired learning and performance outcomes are achieved. Assists in developing valid criteria-based tests.
  • Responsible for design of all Patient Services onboarding and general training programs for non-licensed and licensed healthcare staff.
  • Acts as an internal consultant to the organization regarding the development and implementation of learning initiatives and solutions of a complex nature; and make presentations based on established agendas/lesson plans.
  • Assists business operations in the analysis of new/enhanced learning management system and processes for usability and efficiency recommendations.
  • Recommends and designs means to measure the effectiveness of learning initiatives, evaluates and interprets the results.
  • Manages multiple projects with competing deadlines, simultaneously while modeling the AltaMed’s Standards of Behavior
  • Produces and delivers consistent, high-quality trainings both on-site, classroom training and through virtual classrooms.
  • Maintains knowledgebase of current AltaMed training curricula program modules and new releases to minimize duplication and redundancies.
  • Performs more complex analytical project tasks and other duties as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with courses in Instructional Design; Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of hands-on experience required in managing the development of training programs, learning projects, including instructional design, course development, in-services and project management; experience in healthcare organizations a plus.
  • Experience with technical training and computer-based tools in the development and delivery of learning and knowledge management projects required.
