Job Summary:
The Associate Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Shop Tech provides technical support for the development of courseware and performs ADAS Calibrations. In this role as SME the candidate will be responsible for the ADAS and EV related technical work in the Tech Center. The Subject Matter Expert is supporting Industry events with subject tailored presentations and supports the Specialty Training department with the execution of Hand on Skill development courses.
Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform all aspects of ADAS and EV technology tasks
- Acts as talent for video and photography of repair procedures and processes.
- Assists with designing and building classroom props and training simulators.
- Conduct research on processes related to ADAS and EV technology repair.
- Provides input to the analysis, design, development, and review of course materials for technical accuracy
- Support Industry Events with Subject Matter Presentations
- Act as an Instructor for Specialty Training Hands on Skill Development courses
- Supports Live Online Training (Repairers Realm) with their presence as a Subject Matter Expert
- Responsible for the maintenances of all Specialty Training tools including hardware and software
- Attends kick off and various milestone meetings for course development
- Interfaces with internal and external customers
- Supports the development and validation of courses including travel as required for this purpose
- Perform courseware review for technical accuracy
- Monitors, gathers, and compiles information on new technologies/best practices. Makes recommendations based on research as appropriate.
- Identify technical data, tools, and equipment needed to support courseware development
- Supports the development of the ADAS Calibration Video Library
- Supports the RTS Team in ADAS and EV related research
- Maintains and updates all Diagnostic tools
- Support I-CAR’s Social media strategy
- Performs all aspects of ADAS and EV technology repair including electrical diagnostics.
- Provides technical support, acts as talent, and prepares vehicles, props, simulators, or other materials required for video or photography of repair procedures and processes for I-CAR, I-CAR Education Foundation, and contract products and services.
- Under guidance or collaboration with supervisor and/or other team members, designs and develops classroom props, simulators, schematics, and other training aids for video, photography, or for prototypes required for obtaining quotes for final production of props.
- Collaborates with I–CAR team members to resolve design details and problems related to classroom props being developed.
- Responsible to conduct quality checks on all finished ADAS calibrations.
- Assists Instructional Designers in researching, organizing, developing test specifications, and drafting materials on the use of simulators or other training aids for I-CAR, I-CAR Education Foundation, and contract products and services.
- Maintains the Technical Information database containing data entries on research and testing documents.
- Strives to be a subject matter expert on collision repair processes and tool and equipment operation usage.
- Proficient in obtaining technical information from OEM and product, tool, and equipment representatives, their respective websites and other resources.
- Assists I-CAR team members with producing props, simulators, and other training aids for inventory fulfillment as required.
- Considers scope of work in context of breadth of each project and the interconnectedness of the processes involved. Recognizes and communicates impact of changes in own work area relative to others’ activities.
- Supports the Training team in developing and conducting live Training for ADAS and EV Technology
Skills and Aptitudes:
Required skills:
- An understanding of ADAS and EV repair shop environment
- 2 to 5 years ADAS and EV experience required
- Experience in curriculum development (online, virtual, and live taught)
- Excellent presentation skills
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Proficient in MS Office
- Ability to apply critical thinking
- Exercising sound judgment in problem solving and decision-making processes
- Thorough understanding of collision repair industry trends
Desired skills:
- Instructor experience
- Collision repair facility management experience
Experience and Education:
- Associate degree (A.S.) or certificate in collision repair or vocational education.
- Minimum of four years experience as a collision repair technician
- Minimum of three years experience in collision repair management or equivalent industry experience.

Work is performed in an office and shop environment working on, around, and with collision damaged vehicles, and the related tools and equipment (including frame machines and paint booth) typical of those found in modern collision repair facilities. Computer operations (including email), document development / review, research, and telephone, is approximately 50%. The noise level in the shop environment is moderate to loud.
- Required to regularly stand, walk, sit, handle, trigger, hold, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, and crawl, squat or kneel and bend. May be required to lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds. Required to be able to hear and smell. Required to see, with near, color, peripheral and depth perception vision.
