General Function

Under the direction of the Sports Director and in accordance with the Christian nature and purpose of the Great

Miami Valley YMCA Association, the Sports Instructor is responsible for the planning, development, and

implementation of sports class activities. Must be available 4-5 days per week plus Saturday.

Essential Functions

The incumbent must have the competencies, skills, and proven leadership ability to successfully carry out the

association’s mission, goals, and visions for serving the community. Other important competencies of the Sports

Instructor include the following:

I. Management Skills

1. Sets up and is ready to teach 15 minutes prior to class starting.

2. Keeps accurate attendance records.

3. Teaches lesson as prepared, or officiates game.

4. Is aware of any potential safety hazards.

5. Other duties as assigned and determined necessary. Job duties could change depending on changes in

the business.

II. Teamwork

1. Collaborates with coworkers to provide quality member service.

III. Member Service

1. Greets children and parents as they arrive for class.

2. Praises each child for their work.

3. Finishes each class by handing out a class evaluation for each participant’s parent to fill out.

IV. Communication Skills

1. Reports any and all accidents or incidents which may occur.

2. Communicates with parents how participant is doing in program.

V. Human Resources

1. Maintains high personal moral while performing job functions.

VI. Professional Style

1. Behaves in a way that reflects the core values of the YMCA of caring, honesty, respect and

responsibility.

2. Able to maintain emotional control and composure in turbulent, challenging and changing conditions.

3. Pays attention to detail, completeness and consistency when performing job function.

4. Able to instill confidence through dependability, meeting deadlines, promptness, and regularity of

attendance.

VII. Leadership

1. Influences staff and members by performing job functions in a positive, enthusiastic manner.

VIII. Attainment of Association Goals

1. Finishes each class with a group talk and incorporates the Y’s character development into each talk.

2. Engages in active and healthy lifestyle to promote personal well being and exemplifies all

characteristics of active living.

3. Supports diverse and inclusive work environment and is a community advocate for the YMCA.

Qualifications

Experience:

1. Must have specific knowledge of sport being taught.

Skills and Ability Requirements:

1. Must be able to provide a warm and caring environment in which families can grow.

2. Must have a willingness and desire to work with children
