7a - 3p Four (4) week days with rotating weekends

Job Summary
Provides diagnostic and therapeutic intervention to residents who demonstrate various degrees of severity and types of communication disorders, cognitive deficits with swallowing difficulty and functions as an interdisciplinary member of the Rehabilitation team. This position reports directly to the Director of Rehabilitation Services.
Minimum Qualifications
- M.S. Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
- Certificate in Clinical Competence.
- Licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the State of South Carolina.
- Two (2) years’ experience in the field of Speech-Language Pathology.
Essential Functions
- Attends professional conferences and meetings.
- Assists with billing information and performs other routine clerical work as needed.
- Uses safe techniques for protection of residents and self in performing duties.
- Performs related and such other duties as may be assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g. fire or disaster.
- Assists in maintaining a neat and safe department by straightening equipment, putting away supplies, calling housekeeping when necessary and making suggestions to better the appearance of the department.
- The employee is permitted to perform assigned duties in conformance with ASHA and the State of South Carolina standards.
- Responsible for high degree of accuracy and control of details. Thoroughness and reliability are essential because of the detailed nature of the work.
- Has contacts by phone, correspondence or personal meetings with persons in other departments or outside the facility; tact is required in the contacts and the employee assumes the responsibility for harmonious relationships.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluates residents, develops treatment plans and administers Speech-Language Therapy treatments to residents upon referral by a physician. These services are provided to adult and geriatric residents with a goal of achieving greater than 75% of billable therapy minutes per total work hours per day.
- Records appropriate and accurate treatment data, resident progress notes and completes evaluation reports and discharge summaries for each resident in the electronic health record.
- Consults with other professionals regarding resident’s Speech-Language Therapy program to help coordinate and plan medical services.
- Attends admission family conferences to report treatment progress and education of treatment goals and recommendations.
- Instructs residents and their families in resident Speech-Language Therapy home program.
- Takes physician’s orders from physician offices and facility nursing staff and schedules residents for evaluation and treatments.
- Mandatory participation in the facility’s inservice education program (Relias).
- Maintains an optimistic and professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to residents, visitors, physicians and co-workers. Shows courtesy, compassion and respect. Conforms to facility Code of Ethics.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
