Position Summary:


Under the direction of the Technical Specialist and Manager, performs specimen processing functions and non-technical duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of medical terminology and computer background preferred. One year of full time specimen processing, phlebotomy or equivalent experience preferred. Possess skills for accepting responsibility, making decisions, and working as a team. Promote and maintain compatible working relationships among personnel within the section. Ability to operate equipment at sitting or standing levels. Flexibility and adaptability to work additional hours or shifts and under stress. Effective communications skills to include listening, writing, talking and reading. Ability to communicate via telephone, LIS, email and verbally. Handles multiple priorities. Independent decision making and able to make decisions under pressure. Manages stress, anger, fear and hostility. Works alone and with others effectively. Works in close proximately to others or in a distracting environment.

Visual acuity and above average manual dexterity. Capable of moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and lifting. Subject to viral and bacterial infections, exposed to blood borne pathogens. Occasional exposure to toxic substances. Good physical health, visual acuity and above average manual dexterity.
