Job Description

We are currently seeking an Experienced Special Systems (Security – Access Control - Video Surveillance) Service Technician to join our Special Systems Team.

This position requires the installation, programming, servicing and troubleshooting of software and hardware for several different Integrated Systems (Security, Access Control, Video Surveillance, etc). All work shall be carried out per Manufacturer’s guidelines and per Local AHJ & relevant Life Safety codes & standards.

Technician will be responsible for providing support to internal Sales & Design staff to help develop and deliver complete and operational complex Integrated Systems’ solutions for customers. Technician will also provide both offsite and onsite Service to new and existing customers, including troubleshooting & repairing issues found and upgrading & expanding existing software (and licenses) as needed.

This is a solutions based role so candidate should consider themselves a “problem solver” and be highly motivated to assist our company in providing complete and effective security solutions for our customers.

This role WILL require occasional research to find products that provide the required solutions our customers need, so candidate should be comfortable “self-learning” as needed to assist Sales with system components list and to also follow through to effectively implementing (installing, programming & training on) the solution as well.

Technician should be comfortable communicating with a wide variety of people (both internal staff & external customers) and is expected to be perceived as helpful and professional at all times.

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Assisting Sales staff & with developing complex system solutions & designs.
  • Installing and servicing both software and hardware for several different integrated systems/applications (*without supervision once product specific training is complete).
  • Completing system and software programming as required.
  • Locating and clearing troubles due to damaged equipment or wiring (includes adjusting equipment as required, repairing or replacing inoperative equipment, and testing for final operation).
  • Maintaining a positive, “CAN DO” attitude to help maintain and exceed FAI’s customers’ expectations.
  • Coordinating with the Local AHJ when final testing and acceptance of system/application is required.
  • Developing and providing training and technical support tools for Clients with varying levels of IT, Security and Fire knowledge and competency.
  • Working directly with Client’s IT departments or 3rd Party IT to ensure proper network and IP address configuration etc is provided to allow us to deliver a complete & operational system.
  • Speaking with (and following directions from) several different Manufacturers’ Technical Support teams as needed to finalize any system/ solution.
  • Closely following instructions listed in Installation, User & Programming guides/ Manuals to provide accurately configured workstations, servers and system software etc as needed per each Client’s individualized solution.

Job Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Highly motivated & a Self starter.
  • Associates Degree and/or years of equivalent work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Security or Video System manufacturers’ product certifications.
  • State and Local Certifications/ Licenses as required.
  • Minimum 5 years Experience installing, inspecting and repairing access control systems, CCTV, and IP camera systems, etc.
  • Basic working understanding of switches, routers, and networks.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Manage multiple tasks, responsibilities, customers and resources simultaneously as needed.
  • Some understanding of IP Backbone Architecture, TCP/IP protocol and a STRONG desire to learn more as may be needed.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • MUST BE A “PROBLEM SOLVER” / SOLUTIONS MINDED.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with internal organization, including sales and customer service reps and be a “team player”.
  • Possess a solid level of PC literacy and be willing to self-learn as needed.
  • Must possess advanced knowledge of designing, installing, inspecting and repairing integrated systems/applications.
  • Ability to work independently AND with others.
  • Ability to Interpret/read blueprints, building floor plans, riser diagrams, etc in order to complete equipment installations, repairs, inspections and clear system troubles.
  • Ability to occasionally travel out of town to customer locations and for training. (*90% of FAI’s Special Systems clients are located within a 2-Hr drive of BR with the majority of these located within 20-60 mins drive).
  • Ability to pass background checks and drug tests as required.
  • Must be willing to be available after hours & on weekends when scheduled to be “On-Call”. When called out, must be able to provide off-site software and hardware support or on-site support as required to resolve system failures for integrated applications.

Additional Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with the following products & Systems: Honeywell Prowatch Access Control & Video, Honeywell Webs Access Control, Milestone CCTV, Hanwha Techwin CCTV, Notifier Fire Alarm, 2N Intercom, Aiphone Intercom, SALTO Access Control locks / products, and other various Enterprise Level Access Control systems, CCTV and IP video systems.
  • Solid understanding of how applications communicate within LAN/WAN networks and over the Internet and how to use this to provide Client/Server diagnostic support.
  • Experience working with and installing typical electrified door hardware components.
  • Experience installing, programming and servicing wireless/ wifi locks/ readers.
  • Strong understanding of IP Backbone Architecture, TCP/IP protocol.
  • Experience installing, programming & servicing Fire Alarm systems.
  • NICET Fire Level 1, 2 or 3.

Pay: $25.00 - $37.00 per hour
