Software QA Engineer

Position Summary:
As Software Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer with TARDEC's Software Engineering Center, Department of Army, Warren, MI, you will ensure the integrity, reliability and reproducibility of our internally and externally developed embedded software products for military systems from conception to release. The QA Engineer will have a hands-on role with software for the Army's current and future ground combat and tactical vehicles, weapons and support systems, and will be involved in all stages of the development cycle. This position can be 100% remote.

Clearance Required:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Defines, develops, and deploys TARDECs software QA strategy, addressing all phases of embedded software/product development.
  • Develops and executes QA program plans.
  • Establishes process and product quality control tolerance ranges for compliance and acceptability/qualification.
  • Reviews requirements, specifications, and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback.
  • Reviews, verifies, and validates software and process change requests and authenticates code implementations.
  • Monitors every phase of the software development process to ensure design quality, making sure that the software adheres to the standards set by the agreement between the organization and customer.
  • Maintains product consistency throughout product cycle, to include the design, define, and build phases through quality checkpoints.
  • Conducts functional and physical configuration audits for product acceptance, qualification, and release.
  • Ensures that software products work as intended prior to release to the customer.
  • Develops and manages QA metrics.
  • Recommends and implements approved quality improvement processes.
  • Oversees and provides final approval of product testing efforts.
  • Maintains quality assurance issue database and tracks items to closure.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software/Computer Engineering or Computer Science with course work related to software engineering.
  • Excellent problem solving, interpersonal communication and project management skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Experience with developing or modifying software QA plans, policies, and procedures tailored to the complexity and scope of the developmental or operational system.
  • Experience with implementation and administration of Software Quality Assurance metrics, such as defect profiles and performance to entry/exit criteria.
  • Experience with Linux and/or QNX required, other embedded OS experience strongly desired - preferably command line and not just GUI desktop usage.
  • Experience with software industry best practices like Capability Maturity Model Integrated at least level 3 standards
  • Knowledge of implementing the software QA discipline for the entire life cycle of systems from initial requirements and capabilities baselines to system end-of-life.
  • Knowledge of Lean/Six-Sigma principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of software engineering and lifecycle management standards, regulations, processes and best practices.
  • Skill in defining, implementing and executing software quality best practices and procedures to design, influence, and drive quality and testing of our software.
  • Ability to apply concepts, define, and implement software QA processes and procedures.
  • Ability to inspire team confidence and respect while motivating team members in a creative and effective manner.
  • Ability to review functional and technical documentation from requirements.
  • Ability to review source code against chosen coding standards.

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Masters of Computer Engineering degree with course work related software quality assurance and release management.

  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax,and other office equipment.
