Valero is looking for a Simulation Developer- Logistics Optimization to join the Commercial Transportation Department at the Headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. The Logistics Simulation Developer develops and modifies Simio Models for respective Valero sites. The Logistics Simulation Developer coordinates with varying Commercial and Refinery Personnel to capture logistical constraints and validate analysis. Daily activities may include:

• Serves as a resource in the Commercial and Transportation Project analysis and justification.
• Functions as a Project Coordinator for early Phase Project Development of Commercial and Transportation Projects.
• Identifies opportunities to improve supply chain performance and commercial profitability.
• Utilizes data extraction techniques to provide economic analysis, and report development for the Transportation department across all aspects of the business, including marine and rail operations, demurrage, chartering and vessel performance, barge fleet performance and utilization, etc.
• Develops refinery logistics simulation models using Simio Enterprise software.
• Solves complex analytical challenges for all businesses and develops custom algorithms within Simio.
• Uses statistical analysis, pattern recognition, and data visualization to solve supply chain optimization or commercial profitability opportunities.
• Develops and publishes simulation scheduling to improve vessel optimization and predictability.
• Processes unstructured data into a form suitable for analysis. Develops and maintains regular reporting of metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Analyzes drivers of demurrage, identifies bottlenecks that could be solved by investment in tanks and logistics, pre-screens and then recommends projects to reduce costs.
• Champions the development of selected projects, coordinates with internal groups including Refining Operations, Crude Supply & Trading, Product Supply & Trading, Planning & Economics and Strategic Development & Technology.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

• Bachelor’s or higher-level degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science, Business, or related field required.
• 3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics or engineering required.
• Simio Simulation Modeling or other simulation & optimization solutions required.
• Experience in Refining Planning & Economics preferred.
• Experience in the petroleum marine transportation or other logistics/supply chain-related field preferred.
• Coding knowledge and experience with MatLab, Python, R languages preferred.
• Able and willing to work in-person at the Valero San Antonio Headquarters, required.

Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
