JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for coordinating the execution of all maintenance and operations support activities for a small to medium sized machine shop specializing in the repair of rotating and reciprocating equipment for the petrochemical and power generation industries. Directly supervises and coordinates worker activities engaged in operating a variety of machines to manufacture/machine parts or products. Instills a safety conscious work environment to all employees and drives process standardization and continuous improvement. Works along with the other disciplines as needed to complete various projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises all shop employees and organizes workflow to ensure that employees understand their duties and tasks through all phases of production in accordance with established schedules.
  • Directs shop personnel to ensure all established costs, quality, and delivery commitments are met.
  • Set employee job performance goals, monitor productivity, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Oversees the resolution of operational and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.

· Control change/scope creep, ensuring that all scope changes are quickly and properly documented, and that change orders are approved prior to the performance of work

· Assist or perform diagnostics of equipment failures and recommend solutions to solve equipment reliability issues.

  • Participates in project planning and estimating and develops accurate cost estimates for potential new work.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation and reports to reflect all shop activities and production.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Participates in designing and building tooling needed for various shop processes.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist employees in solving work problems.
  • Applies knowledge of production planning, scheduling of workload, tooling requirements and machine maintenance to ensure a smooth flow of work through the shop.

· Review and assess scope of authorized work and continually monitor job progress against plan.

  • Evaluates and determines staffing requirements and technical capabilities of shop personnel within the function.
  • Participates in the selection, retention and development of shop personnel including interviewing, training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Oversees programs and procedures for shop personnel training and provides on-the-job and other formal training to staff in areas of specialization as required.
  • Maintain effective schedule and cost control within assigned shop functions of the project.
  • Perform work in conformance with plans, specifications, schedules, and cost control estimates
  • When required, fill in for absent employees to ensure schedule deadlines are met.
  • Maintains a safe working environment.
  • Maintaining and controlling inventories to control cost.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum five (5) years of fabrication shop supervisory responsibilities or experience.
  • The desire and ability to mentor/coach and train new employees to elevate overall team.
  • Experience in rotating, and or reciprocating compression equipment manufacturing and/or repair
  • Knowledge of inspection equipment and inspection of machined parts.
  • Knowledge in machine tools, manual machining and programming.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to develop and implement quality control machining processes.
  • Able to identify tooling solutions best suited for each process to reduce overall cost.
  • Ability to cost estimate jobs and understand all shop processes.
  • Ability to read, understand, and carry out safety rules, and instructions in the use and maintenance of shop tools and equipment, and methods and procedures in operations sheets and hand sketches.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel)
  • Attention to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbally.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and ability to delegate tasks.

ADDITIONAL PREFFERD QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desired - Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Understanding of facility management, including plant operations, maintenance, engineering, janitorial services, safety, grounds, and related services.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of Work Order Control (WOC) procedures and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS.)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Conditions:

This position works in the shop or on the jobsite. There is exposure to hostile environments, high noise levels more than 85dBA, hazardous chemicals/fumes and airborne particles, smoke, extreme temperatures and moving mechanical parts.

During worksite visits you will be required to wear appropriate PPE including, but not limited to:

Hard hat

Ear plugs or attenuator

Safety shoes

Dust mask or respirator

Gloves
