OVERVIEW
Perfetti Van Melle - one of the world's largest manufacturers and distributors of confectionery and chewing gum with global brands enjoyed in more than 150 countries worldwide - is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic SHER Manager to join our growing team.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Develop and lead the Site Safety Center of Excellence (COE) – engage with cross functional stakeholders to maintain site programs, drive improvements, and cultural change.
- Plan, implement, and maintain SHER policies and procedures to ensure compliance to local, state, and federal regulations as well as corporate policies.
- Manage site security department and fire protection systems to ensure proper working conditions and compliance status.
- Assist departments in the completion of incident investigations and development plans to avoid reoccurrence. Monitor plans to verify effectiveness of plans and help teams deepen root cause analysis.
- Assist in developing site safety team to ensure it is appropriately staffed (medical, spill response, and emergency coordinators), supported by leadership, and effectively operated to include regularly scheduled meetings, perform audits/assessments, and publish/post meeting minutes and metrics. Organize drills to ensure adequate preparation for true emergencies.
- Manage department budget following financial norms – building annual budget, forecast spending, managing POs, etc.
- Advise leadership on SHER compliance concerns, trends, corrective and preventative actions.
- Participate on a high performing team to develop safety leaders and help direct the strategic direction of the manufacturing organization.
- Develop positive working relationships with the local Fire Marshall, OSHA, and other state and local authorities as needed.
- Develop and maintain PVM’s journey toward improved TPM and Security Program.
- Participate in project development teams to implement SHER requirements starting from design through project commissioning and startup.
- Review all changes to processes to ensure all SHER impacts are considered and managed accordingly.
- Provide selection criteria for purchasing personal protective equipment as well as training and guidance on proper use and maintenance.
- Perform and provide reviews for contractor qualifications, worksite inspections, and performance evaluations.
- Track all SHER KPI data, monitor statistics, and complete required reports identifying areas of opportunity and innovation for SHER programs.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or related technical field required.
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience with ISO program auditing schemes – specifically ISO 45001 & 14001 (ISO 50001 is a plus).
- Experience with maintaining regulatory compliance – Water, Sewer, Air, Waste, Fire, OSHA – managing relationships with government officials, identifying areas for compliance review.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Must be able to push and/or pull carts up to 100 pounds and occasionally push and/or pull carts up to 300 pounds.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, SharePoint and creating/manipulating SHER databases.
- Ability to professionally and effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Problem solving skills to find the right solutions to SHER issues.
- Strong planning and organization skills.
- Expertise in implementing SHER policies and procedures.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/activities/programs simultaneously. Detail oriented.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, influencing, and time management skills.
- Ability to explain difficult concepts and persuade others to adopt a point of view.
- Ability to make decisions guided by policies, procedures, and technical knowledge that impact the company’s ability to meet SHER performance and compliance objectives.
